music video with prerecorded sound - need for slating?

Shooting a music video with no live audio, only prerecorded sound.
Is there any reason I should still slate, other than for organizing my shots?

Normally I only slate when doing dual sync sound.

No slate needed. You will work faster - at least this is my experience. Though your AC will love to slate every shot - i don't know where this slate love is in ACs. Also your editor will love the slate - again because u r the one doing the edit it really doesn't matter.

Normal slate is a bit pointless, because the important feature is the playback - so I simply add a click to the playback track and let the camera audio re-record it. It's a simple matter to then use this to slip the tracks. However, the camera audio waveform usually has enough clarity to be able to be used for the same thing.

To add to that, a series of clicks/tone pops that are metered with the song and lead into the downbeat will not only make alignment easy in post but also give your musicians a reliable count-in.

A dumb slate will do you little good on a music video. If you have TC playback that is feeding a smart slate, sync is no problem.

I agree a beep at the begining of the track.

One consideration. Your on camera mic dont.. bust it.

I had an issue with a mic after exposing it to high sound pressure levels.

Last vid I did I used a crappy mic for the cam.

If you have any kind of lip synching in the clip - for the love of god record some sort of guide track in-camera!!!

If not, then go for your life :)
