Music Video: "Winter ain't so cold" (Sgpro/dvx)

Hey guys.

So my friend wanted to direct this music vid for a local band, called "The Considerate Lovers",were he grew up for free, and I supported along with my camera. There wasn't really any ideas for the video and he couldn't get anyone to sponsor us the planetickets up there, so an old friend suggested that he would pay for our tickets if the band would play in his livingroom at his 30-year-old birthday bash. That pretty much sealed the deal and we decided we would shoot some docu-footage during the birthday-concert and some footage in a parking garage the day after. We only had a 4xbank 55w coolight, but a nice local photographer up there was willing to lend us two arri 650w plus tungsten fresnels for free, and we got ahold of some 500w worklights from a hardware store, a lot of baking paper and some small bits of blue gel from a photo store :)

Well, long story told short, it was quite a challenge and improvised with a two-man crew, but we pulled through I believe.
And yeah, went for a gritty style in post :)

Oops, posted in wrong thread.
This was supposed to be posted under "screen grabs/footage" department, sorry.

Hey Smettli!

Good piece of work man!

I liked that it didn't look so.. hmm.. what's the word.. stereotypical?
Like "ordinary" band setup music video..?

Yeah, good lighting and tight editing!
Love it!

And good to finally see something from you again!
It's so rare! :crybaby:

Anyway:)
Peace!

haha, thanks man!

Been busy writing and planning a tv-pilot for a while now which we start shooting in the end of this month in Denmark. Really looking forward to it!

I'll make sure to post some preview footage when I'm allowed to :)

Well, I'm producing it together with a friend, so we have to get someone to buy it first(if we're lucky) :Drogar-Kriz(DBG):
But we're in good faith and you can't win unless you try, right? :)

Other than that I'm working various small stuff as a freelance cameraman in Copenhagen, and I'm actually moving back there on Sunday!

What are you up to these days?

That's so true. If you don't try, you'll never know what "might've been" :)

Cameraman? Huh nice, wouldn't you like to direct etc?

Moving to Copenhagen, nice! Aren't you gonna miss Norway  ?

Actually.. I just became an official freelancer.
Haven't gotten any jobs yet, but I'm working on it. Promoting and advertising.
I got this website and all: www.tomaspollen.com
And I have some plans with a friend from Canada to maybe start a production company.. we'll see how that goes :)
But times are really exciting! I love it!

2 months ago I would've never thought of myself as a freelancer.. I didn't think I had what it took.. but it took a Canadian to convinve me of otherwise :D

Cool!

Like the website reel, good job. I'm guessing you will add some info etc. later on?
Good to hear that you're going for it, it can't really go "bad" as long as you don't take on something huge beyond reach, but even then, just hire som extra people to help out :)

Directing is nice, but I don't really enjoy doing it in a "client situation" where you comprimise your own subjective choises to make the client happy, kind of wears me down. I rather just set some lights and hold a camera while smoking some cigarettes, less worries :) But directing for personal projects, sure thing!

Is your friend from Canada staying in Norway, or are you planning on working in Canada as well?

yeah I will put some more info there soon. For now it only works as a web-business card thing.

He's from Canada and staying in Norway, but he has to move back to Canada in 2 weeks, but he's coming back after Christmas.
The plan is to work here in Ålesund at first.
But we also want to work internationally :)
