Music Video - "The Fox, The Crow, and The Cookie" - Artist - mewithoutYou

Great vid
Love the color grading
What was your scene file settings plus what did you use for lighting
Did you use an external monitor

Thanks, thanks. Always appreciate the comments.

It was the first thing I shot with the Brevis, so it was a bit of a learning experience on that end. The vingetting was discussed at the time with the directors, and they actually asked to have it. They thought it added something artistic to the shot. The scene setting was custom settings, also a suggestion that was discussed with the editor, tweaking the settings to retain "all of the information". Doing this created quite a muddy mess in the monitor, yet gave the editor more than normal amount of info to tweak for sharpening, etc. This caused a bit of trouble for me in not only focussing, but issues with low-light were less obvious.

We shot this in a theater at Temple University, so lighting was a combo of stage lighting and a few film lights on stands to fill in the gaps and make sure it didn't have that entirely 'top-lit' feel.

Low budget, 2-days, minimal tech help. If I had to do it again, I would definitely do things a little differently, but I am still happy with the result. Working with puppets wasn't super easy either.

this was the best music video i have seen in a long time. Don't listen to the nonsense about CA and vignetting. Dvxuser has just been brainwashed to only care about these silly little things because it isn't what they have been trained to like. I add vignettes to all of my stuff. :) I thought the concept was unbelievably cleaver and you pulled it off wonderfully. :)

Thanks Dillon. I appreciate it. It was a fun video to do regardless of it's outcome, and a bit on the ambitious side. I am totally fine with comments one way or the other. I would probably do things a bit differently if I had to do it over again, but isn't that the nature of the beast?

agreed, most of the music videos i've watched here have been painfully hard to watch but the exectution and concept here both came through remarkably well.

Great job on this, seriously! Not only is the video really well executed, but MewithoutYou has been my favorite band since I first heard A->B Life. The visuals here totally fit with the feel of the song as well as the album as a whole. Better to be over ambitious in my opinion because if/when you succeed it makes it all worth while.

If you ever film a video for the band in LA and need a unpaid PA don't hesitate to PM me.

Best,

Riley

Excellent video! The filming and editing were great. I wasn't that thrilled at first, because I remember hating mewithoutyou... but they are a whole new band now it seems.

I thought it was very well done and creative. The song was really good too, thanks for sharing this.

Thanks everyone for their support on here. It is nice to have some positive feedback.

As an FYI, the video is currently available on Comcast ON-DEMAND in the music section hosted by FUSE. It should be up there for a month or so.

As for people's taste in the music itself, I can understand. They tend to be a band that grows on you. They are definitely different and are doing their own thing. I can appreciate it when a band is just trying to be different.

Thanks again to all who took time to watch the video and of course those who too time to comment as well.

Josh,

Your work along with the rest of your production team on this video has re-ignited my interest in creating film and music videos. It's been hibernating for over 16 years. Granted, I have no idea where to start, mostly for fear of getting trapped in a single element of film rather than a position of multi-discipline involvement, but the positive point is, I want to start!

I love this video. Loved it. LOVED it. I wouldn't be half as interested in the song as a whole without the visual aspect....good deal!
