Hi all,

I made this video to test out the homemade 35mm adapter Ive been working on with my DVX100. Theres no narrative or concept to the video, we just had a few hours and wanted to make some simple to test out the kit.

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the words For The Living video was done by me as well, it was all shot on the DVX100 too, straight with video lens.

Thanks for checking them out

not gonna lie, the first video was 'meh', but the second final one was AMAZING. what did you use in after effects to achieve all those effects?

Thanks for checking them out. Yes the 35mm adaptor video is very simple and was more of a test for the kit.

With the effects in the 2nd one, I tried a lot of the usual 'old film' plug-ins for after effects like Boris and Tinderbox but found it was hard to get away from the preset feel. The answer was to just bite the bullet and create some scratch loops of my own. It sounds daunting but it really didnt take that long. I made the film strip very quickly in AE with a couple of solids and some textures and then played around with the grading and transfer modes quite a bit.

On the money,, some of this stuff has a bit of Porcupine Tree feel to it,, the clips I mean, not the style of music.

Really Impressive AE work Ross. Im just jumping back into that now after getting CS4. Great footage out of the DVX too. One of the best homemade adapter tests I've seen and great simple lighting.

Hey thanks very much for this, great to hear.

I actually thought at the time that the AE stuff might have been too much, I do love the degraded film look but always hate it when it looks really digital. The first version was done with a Boris plug-in and I think you could really tell. Once you move away from presets the results just get better and you end up much more satisfied I think. AE is such a great programme but to begin with it doenst seem that friendly at all!

how did you learn that stuff on AE?
how long does it take? and was it hard?
(I've got to learn those stuff too:))

I thought the lighting was perfect in the first one and liked the effects of the 2nd. However, the 2nd looked more video-like although the effects were great. I wonder how it would look if you combined the two videos so that you have the shots of them jamming from the first video and them in the city in the second.
