Hey Everyone. Just posted a music video on my blog that was shot on the GH3. This was a no budget production and I was the only crew member other than makeup. Shot in half a day in one location and edited on FCPX. Film convert was used for finishing touches and Davinci Resolve for the grade.

Half a day and no crew? Looks fantastic.

What lighting package did you use with the GH3? Also, the "grain" looks very pleasing. Is that from Filmconvert or is it from the GH3 at higher ISO's?

It goes to show a motivated enthusiastic artist can produce beautiful work without much in the way of resources if he sets his mind to it. With no budget, crew and dedicated post team, I think this piece was fantastic! great work man.

Wow, thanks for all the responses - glad you guys enjoyed it. To answer some questions:

dtjohns1 - I shot with Standard, everything at - 5 except for Saturation which was at 0.

Matt - I used a very simple Lowell package, mainly utilizing the 250 and 750 in the kit. There was some grain from the camera, I didn't add much with Film Convert (maybe 10% or so). I was going to denoise it, but ended up liking the texture it added.

MBPRODUCTS - I shot mostly at 60fps. But the lip sync'd material was at 24. The 60fps worked out well because everything I wasn't sure would be in slow motion, I knew would benefit from the fast shutter (1/125) even if taken back down to 24fps. So stylistically it made the most sense to shoot almost everything in 60p unless necessary.

jimagine - Yes it was a crazy one!

Ianscreations - I shot it all in color, even though I knew exactly which shots would be B and W. It helps a lot with the grade because you still have the option to isolate things when you have more information to work with as a starting point.

@Noam

My favorite shot was the Go Pro shower head, brilliant. My least favorite was the long hallway. Maybe just the camera couldn't handle such a scene with extreme dynamic range, also the focus was soft or possibly the resolution just wasn't there. I think it would have been cool if maybe the camera would have dollied all the way to her and then that long shot would have ended. The black and white look nice as well as the color grade.

Honestly great project and that shower head shot was the money shot. Don't like that long corridor shot, at least not for the whole piece, something should have happened with it. Possible the camera slowly dollying in as the song was ending and different lighting techniques happening while it was reaching her.

At the end though, great work and thanks for sharing. Video looks great.

I was thinking the same. Great work!

I was curious about the noise. There seemed like a fair amount in the shadows above the couch in those shots. Was that in the original footage or amped up somehow in post? What ISO were you shooting at for those shots (if you happen to remember)?

1/2 day? Wow. Great job. Doing it all alone makes it almost unreal. What a day.

Bravo. (Well deserved.)

(My quibble: It's too bad the repetitive and boring music wasn't near the quality and creativity in your video work.)

Fabulous!

Does Davinci read Gh3 footage? Or did you have to convert the footage to something Davinci understands?

The copy of Davinci I have doesn't seem to read Gh2 files...

I think this is great work, the Go Pro for the shower scene was a nice touch.
