Music Video - Sanctity - METAL

I usually hate Metal, but this band is ok I thought. The lighting on the drummer is real nice. I also really like the light coming through the holes. What wattage are the lights coming through the holes? The set has a nice delapitated look with paint peeling etc. How did you find this location? By far my favorite shot is at the end with the empty room with the jib or was it handheld?

Nice work!

That was awsome! Really liked the lighting and the fast and shaky style, it really
fits the music. Nice work, especially for a musicvid debut.

Great job Hiro! Wow' I loved it. You had some nice things here; the ramping up with the chair, the silloutte shot was awesome. Very pro looking. First one? You have a bright future; love your work.

Kevin? You don't like Hard Rock? You dont listen to boy bands do you?

Dude, that was good. But gosh~ I don't like the lead vocal's hair. What's up with that? anyway, since this is your first music video, how did you go about doing preparation?

I was going to add; seems a lot of attention is on the vocalist. I'd rather see some conceptual details than this guy THE ENTIRE TIME

Thx for the comments, & suggestions. I'll look into it. The location is an abandoned prision facility here in charlotte, the department of transportation gave permission to the director of Tolerance (indie feature) to use it because they are going to tear it down at the end of the year. I'm the dp for the feature and I talked to director. he said it was ok, so we shot this on a saturday. The place is kinda hazardous, there's lead paint chips everywhere.. but it was so cool, the cells, paint peeling off the ceiling... we had to do it there. The director was covered with lead paint.. see the trailer here.

I felt that location was KEY to the music video. For lighting, we use home depot lights..lol. Preparation.. the band wanted a performance video. I figure we shoot this from as many angles as we can, make sure everyone performs with energy, and that's basically it. This video will be present to the label, and hopefully they'll get sign. And if they like the video, i might get more work. But we'll see. We had fun overal, the lead probably took years off of my life. but hey.... I live for this. The hair is cool I think, makes it more metal!!!! RARWW!

It's metal all right. I am just saying it might have been better if his hair was all wet like Andrew WK or something. And that... might have helped since he bangs his head like crazy, u could have had faster shutter speed and go for saving private ryan sorta look. Just my 2 cents.

great job dude! lighting and camera work are great. the performance from the band is great too. its really well done.

it started to get a bit repetitive towards the middle/end. i think you kinda burnt through some interesting concepts early in the video...the solo guitarist in the begining was ****in rad. would have loved to see similar stuff with the drummer and bass player, it really was a cool look you captured with the guitarist. like he was in solitary, imagine the clip with those same dark solitary moments for each band member intercut together and then when you see them actualy performing together would have been more intense.

jusy my thoughts, the video is well done man, very pro, good job!

Man, how did you od the lights through the wall like that? Powerful light plus smoke?

How much smoke did you use?

that looks awesome.

Stellar job on this one, hiro.

I agree that the rays of light really closed the deal and made the video something special.

Keep it up.

Rich, that would have been cool. Nice concept. Unfortunely I didn't do a solo with the bass. Theres so many things I wish I could have done differently, but it was definetly a great learning experience for everyone. With the footage we had, it really put my editing skillz to the test. If we can fool the label into thinking that the video has a high production value, we'll take that as a big accomplishment!

That "light ray" segment was shot during the daytime, we tried to duplicate it at night but we didn't have enough light .. plus all of our drop cords were being used... we tried it with one 500 watt light and got one ray lol. I agree about the light rays, it really helped. We had our wally world fog machine I bought during halloween, we ran that baby.. it filled the whole room. it didn't take much for it to show. I still have a half of gallon left.

LOL, I don't listen to boy bands, but I do have some boy band mp3's from a wedding I djed for a friend a while back. My favorite type of music is relaxing stuff...Cold Play, Enya, Marie Brennan, John Mayer, Maroon 5, PM Dawn, Phil Collins, etc. I really like Bluegrass, a lot of the mid 90's alternative, old school rap, Celtic, new age and techno/drum and bass on shoutcast.com, etc. Before I play basketball, go boarding or when I wrestled in HS I listened to AC/DC, Rob Zombie, Offspring, Metallica. If I want to shake the house I play Nelly EI or Xibit Alcoholic. I dislike most country, a lot of the newer rap, hardcore metal, and the new trend seems to be the "scream as loud as you can in you best devil voice" music. My taste has changed a lot over time, and it may change more, but for now this is who I am. What types of music do you like/dislike? Sorry for the hijack Hiro. If nothing else it will put your post up front again so more people can see you great music vid!

Really nice stuff here! The lighting overall was superb, and you had some really creative shots.....If this is your first, I am interested in seeing your further works.....

leseul, we shot this at an rundown prison facility here in charlotte, its been abandon for like 6 years now.. alot of people break in for time to time.. its pretty beat up.. I see paint splatters everywhere, im guessing they used it for a paintball arena once.. I listen to just about everything.. hard rock does give me a headache after listening to it for a while..lol.

LMMFAO!!! I read what you said before I seen the video, I seen the video and I swear, if the video was 5 minutes long, they showed the red head 4:30 of the time!! OMG, like...WHO was the editor! Was the rest of the group mad? I woulda QUIT after that. And he looks like a fake. Without the red head, he lokos like the guy who plays Stewart on Mad TV.
