Music Video Rough CUt

You've got the same problem I have had a ton of times. Bands do not light for video, they tend to light to "look cool".

What I like to do if I am in discussion with a band, is show up at a gig and shoot 10-15 minutes of "recon" footage to see what crappola I will have to work with in their lighting. I will then whack out a chunk of the worst, render it and upload it, to give the band something to see how they look, and then begin the discussion about frontal lighting with them.

Seriously, and I hate to say this, but I would reshoot them after they got some frontal lighting so you can see them. It is very difficult to see faces etc in the video, and people aren't going to work that hard to view their whole performance or your work.

I agree that was a huge issue I had. one thing that i have going for me is this is just part of the footage. I am doing a shoot next week with them in the studio and a few more gigs before the final product is finished. its gonna be a compilation of several different looks. this is just what they wanted me to post for now. the next venue im shooting them in is lit VERY well so that will not be an issue. its the concert venue I run video at and we have about 200 led chauvets and about 50 movers. so light is definitely not an issue there. thanks for the input i always look for comments and criticism. thats the only way to get better at what we do. this is actually my first music video project I am still learning a bit as I go as well

I jusr relooked at one we did and had a similar dark issue. We bumped up the brightness in post an picked up a lot. We also picked up some noise, but the trade off for it was more than worth it.

Another thing I like to do is, if at all possible, grab a board feed, and a ambient mic feed as well. I will then mix them in post, to give the clarity of the board along with the ambient from the room, to give a "live" feel to the audio. It doesn't take much ambient, to fill the void from the board feed at all. IMO, if you can see the crowd, or the viewer knows there's a crowd there, you oughta be able to hear something from them as well. Not much, subtle, but something.

The song is really cool with it's alt feel

But damn

This footy isn't doing it justice

Maybe mix the studio and live footy ?

But def use a mastered track.

thats my intentions. im going into studio next week to shoot footage there and another venue towards the end of the month. this venue is much better than the one in the footage now. this was just prelim stuff they wanted me to post "strike while the iron is hot" the bands words. this show was saturday night. we have a lot more work to do on this. just curious what thoughts you guys might have had. and everything has been taken into consideration and is much appreciated.

show us the completed version! let your creative thoughts let you finish the video then come ask for some comments!!!
