Music video: Reasons That We Fall

Nicely done. you did a great job on exposing both the talent and the sky. Most of the time when using DV people either get the sky exposed properly or the talent, but you did a nice job on both.

Excellent job on the video -- right on par with the high quality song.

Looks like you used different settings on your dvx100/a for the outdoor day, outdoor night and indoor shots. Could you tell us what those different settings were?

Also, you did a super job in post. What was your NLE? Did you use the internal color correction filter or some other external filters, as well? Lighting was very nicely done ... care to tell us about the lighting set-up?

Thanks!

I actually shouldn't give the impression I was the DP on this. Our DP was a very talented guy named Harris Charalambous. I served as line producer, 2nd unit director, camera operator, editor, effects artist, and 2nd colorist. But since I did all those jobs I can answer most of your questions!

The camera settings were kept pretty flat. Cinegamma with varying levels of ND is all, I believe. White balanced through CTB for a slightly warmed look right in-camera. Shot 24p Normal. I do remember that for whatever reason we had a hard time getting the two cameras, almost identical, to match in settings. I don't think we ever were able to solve that problem but we only used the 100a for a half day so it wasn't a big deal.

Obviously we then pushed that look pretty far. I did the preliminary color correction. Some of it is Final Cut's internal filter, some of it is Color Finesse. Some of the shots were just too tough to correct with software and so about 25% of the video was done on a DaVinci.

Lighting was done with a lot of Kino-Flos, mostly. We had two Kino car kits for the limo, and a large array of Kino for the exterior performance shots/sunset. The stuff in the club was primarily lit with a couple 650s and little pots hidden around the stage. The sort of documentary-looking stuff from the club/bar was pretty much all just a big 200w china ball which we dragged around on a 100' extension. Sorry, that's about all I can remember right now.

Thanks everyone who enjoyed the video. Hopefully the band will make it big in America soon... they're super nice guys really and have some good songs!

I really like the song and the footage shot was very nice. I hope this band does well also.

I did find that the story footage and the performance footage was in reverse from what I would usually see. I wonder if it would have brought a different power if the two had been reversed. Not a judgement..only something to ponder...great job. Keep on rockin' in the free world.
