For a great looking Music Video with HDSLR cameras with Prime Lenses, Lights, Storyboard, edit, etc. What would you people consider to be a bare minimum to charge.

Basically something that can compete or at least be comparable to something you see on MTV, BET or any other media outlet for a professionally shot music video

thanks

i have no idea and have no experience with this but just wanted to chime in that i did see the figure of 5000$ floating around somewhere on here for someone else doing a medium level music video ...so i'm not sure though i guess it also depends on how long it takes to shoot and how many other expenses you have to incur i.e. how complex the vid is etc

Its impossible to say. Show me the script / spec and then I could possible give an estimate. It depends on whats in there.

BUT, it really depends on what the producers budget is. I could do a music video for $10k or $50k. Again, whats the budget, whats required?

The budget for the video is $5k and wanted to know form more experienced users what is the thought on this price range.

Did not know exactly where to post, so I apologize if it is in the wrong place

Thank You

Noel's got it right here. How is it possible to know what something is going to cost if you don't know what you're going to have to shoot. Just like any other video, it ALL starts with the script!!!!

Calm down there buddy. The script is basically cars, girls, drugs, fast life. This ranges from car scenes , hotel scenes, women, etc. Basically it's the fast paced day life/ night life seen in any modern day movie.

This is what the script basically consist of

for some reason this sounds like every other music video out there... you should make if jump out more... dont do the usual stuff that everyone is tired of seeing.

Again, it's almost impossible to come up with a close estimate without seeing a script, creating a production schedule, etc.

Depends totally on the entire budget, what your role is (you haven't specified) and the quality expected from it.. For £5000 (or $7600 ish) total production, and no one is getting paid except for expenses, I'd expect subtle quality kinda like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDKAUQ0aN3U

Or fo' bitches and bling, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsx5bIZvLt8

These directors I don't think got paid anything for those videos. From their quality with what they *can* produce, you'd think they'd get the minimum union rates of £1000 a day ish. Heck, at such lower levels it might even be worth throwing all of your fee into production to making the video better (ie: renting that certain crane rig or exploding flower basket, or a stripper) and having an even better showreel for prospective representation. Unless your role is DIT+equipment hiring, then yeah, you wanna command some cash to pay back your equipment expenses. And that would depend on what actually is your equipment, your insurance/indemnity and involvement with that gear, and how much it'd be at the big rental places.

Ahh yes the age old common music video. Doing what everybody else has done.

I, unfortunately, am there right now my friend.

I just shot a video in Paris. Pretty typical concept, tried to push a little creativity into the pipeline but again if you are working for somebody (they paid for gear/flight to paris/misc costs) you have to help get them what they want. Also this was not a normal job, I didn't pitch the idea, it was brought to me and I had never been out of the country...

So I would say try to reason with them and try to get your own mark on it, but if it turns into you shooting their little fantasy then go ahead and use some of the budget to pay yourself because you sure as hell aren't getting anything worthwile for your reel.
