Music Video Preview and some new grabs

Bag of Douche
The video (not complete): More rotoing work to do, as well as CCing. Also need to edit the whole rest of the video... Next time I'll just shoot uncompressed HD infront of a greenscreen. Ugh ... soo much rotoing

Thanks to our own PK Gillock for the generous hosting!

PS - PK, I'll send the kittens thru first class air mail, 2 day shipping!

EDIT: Probably the final look of the timelapse hill...

not as dark as it looks, just cloud shadow... it's there for about a frame heh

I really liked the "black and white character frame jumping". I've seen that in the Prodigy video for Spitfire. Would you be willing to spill the beans on how you do that?

Looks cool so far. Song is pretty tight too.

wow, I'm very impressed young grasshopper! Very intresting looking video. You're editing is pretty sweet. The video got my attention! It was nice! Now finish it! <--- soda

great stuff there! I'm really impressed!

I'm with ProjX, how did you do that "black and white character frame jumping"?

Thanks guys

The frame jumping was actually an accidental result of me experimenting how to make her sort of stand out in certain parts of the video.

Basically it is a few layers of roto around the character, with different CC/Contrast and opacity stacked ontop of each other in a clever fashion.

I hope that makes sense?

Nice job MOnte; I too am impressed. This entire piece kept my attention. Granted we will all percieve it to mean something else but I had a story in my head while watching. Nice job and visually interesting without being typical; it's original.

Bravo.

A little. I think it's the "clever fashion" part we want to know how to do. :)

How did you get it move so randomly? Did you tie it somehow to a gate weave effect?

Just watched the whole thing again. The video looked even better the second time around.

how did you do the shot in the bathroom with the mirror? i was going to assume the mirror was just green'd over, but i see the reflection on the beveled edges.

Monte - I'm impressed. Those were some cool shots and fx you got goin' on. Did hangin' around here teach you all that stuff? Because I must have missed the "Kick-Butt Music Video FX" class. :)

Sweet stuff. I'll take another look and see if there's anything that doesn't look right.

Mad - all of this was done in vegas, the bathroom did not use greenscreen, actually what I did was shot her doing her thing infront of the mirror, then shot the reflection, and composited them together via lots of rotoing. When you see the close up in the mirror, its a similar thing - just even more rotoing because you can actually see the reflection in the beveled edges of the mirror, and it wouldnt make much sense unless they had the "wiggliness" to them as well. I don't know if that shows up in the quicktimes though.

The only thing that wasn't done in vegas was the clearing out of all the tombstones - which was done in photoshop. So before she was standing in a cemetary packed with stones, and afterwards its completely devoid of tombstones, as well as the young lady.

Next step is to roto her back into the image frame by frame, as well as all the tombstones. On different layers so the tombstones could fade out with just her and the marker infront of her.

---

ProjX - well the randomness is all hand done, by rotoing out another layer piece by piece and timing it so that it's in sync with the layer below it. Then you place it off the the side, then off to the other side, etc. And it creates that sort of jumpy random effect.

My main complaint is that this is all a HUGE pain in the ass to do in vegas, as it seems (at least in Vegas 5) that the rotoing tool leaves SO much to be desired, and theres lots of guesswork, just because the roto window has a really low res image, and you can only zoom in so far to get the perfect matte.

Hope this clears stuff up

EDIT
Ahh PK you must have posted while I was typing that long rebuttal. Anywho - danke, check it out, I'm sure there's something in there I must have missed so let me know if theres anything that you aren't feeling, ie - "Hey monte, that part where there's a strobing effect? That sucks! I hope you die"

With that said, enjoy.

Thanks monte,

I'm going to give it a try. If it turns out 1/10th as good as yours, I'll be happy.

Can't wait to see the rest of the vid. :)

nice job monte! cant wait to see the finished project. sorry i couldnt help with any of the vfx stuff but if you need anything let me know! the stuff you did looks really incredible for the minimal amount of software you used to achieve it! great job!

man this looked great. espeically loved the shot where she's at the table, filmed trough the door opening

that was pretty cool I'd say. It was a bit RING-ish. other than that, looks clean and overall a moving piece.

Wesley

Actually, had several dolly setups, 1 for the hallway there, 1 at the side of the table, and one coming through that backdoor, however I couldn't light the other areas to make it look realistically like it was daytime (the house was shot at 10:00 PM - 1:00 AM)

I don't know if it's noticable or not - hopefully not.

I'm happy with how it's turning out though, since it was my first time using the camera and I didn't know what the hell i was doing, it probably would've been a better turnout had I given it a week before shooting, but alas I didn't have the $$$ to rent for a whole week beforehand, that's life. A lot more complex than my old canon zr60
