looks fantastic man. really great looking. nice editing/comps/light/performance. great job man. i like the song too. the only thing i didnt like was the new very crisp looking baseball cap. the whole video had almost a period piece look to it, earthy, and the cap kinda stuck out. but seriously no biggie. well done!

I thought this was an amazing video. I agree whole-heartedly with Rich's comments about the editing/comps/light/performance. Really excellent. I didn't notice the baseball cap as much, so I didn't find it distracting.

The only criticism I would have to offer is, I found the amount of shake during the louder rockin' parts of the song to be excessive and disconnected from the rest of the piece. There is one movement around 1:20 where the camera zooms and the focus rocks in and out that I thought worked much better.

It's a minor criticism when compared to the quality of the rest of the video and I think it works really well regardless, just my opinion. The other thing your video had going for it is, I thought the song was really cool. Who is the guy/band? Hope you post more work in the future.

Look very nice, same criticism about the louder sound part, look like bad sound when you listen to it. The light, the camera and the editing are very good, so very nice work for a first project. ;)

Thanks for all the comments. The only setting change in camera was the master ped at – 4. we shot in the singers hallway and in my flat with 3 Arri lamps. The dvx has blown me away with the image quality. Very little done to it in post. De-saturation and some contrast (and the crops). Wanted to use the MB plugs but found at times they were over kill and take to darn long to render.

Any advice on a good contrast plug to use with FCP? I find all kinds of problems with the ones that come stock.

Very solid. How did you get the skinny Castro out of Cuba to play for your video? :)

The quake effect was too much in my opinion. The cap was not jarring to me.

We had a laugh about the Castro look while shooting. The group is called MANUOK. Pronounced MAN – U – OK. This is a really good record for those of you that like the track. He is currently a featured artist at

That is the way he dresses normally. I think it is his favorite shirt. He is always wearing a cap and that is the only one that didn’t have a corporate logo on it. We used an indie dolly for all the tracking movements.

Wow. Thats a good, yeah the audio sounds like it has some problems in the louder parts, but for a first project you knocked it out of the park.

Did you use a softbox or anything to diffuse the light or are these straight lights?

good work man, can't wait for your next one.

we did diffuse some of the light using light filters. and at some points left them open for a more contrasty style. I have an arri D1 softbank kit - 650,300,150 fresnels. i'll try and post some of the outtakes soon.

With the arri kit you have, are you limited in the lighting that you can pull off. Obviously this was a dark ad, but what if you were opting for a brighter approach.

I'm trying to find a lighting kit for myself, and really just need to know how versatile these lights are. Alot of my clients want bright *cheery* ads.
