Re: MUSIC VIDEO I SHOT - WATCH ME!
This vid does bring up an issue we all face in our work - creating videos. In terms of "Art", we should follow our desires and instincts and create what we like.
However, if you want to create something that is marketable, it appears sex and violence are very necessary. It also seems that you have to outdo your competition. Kill Bill Vol 1, made me ill. I couldn't believe how much people loved the violence in the movie. Tarantino was joking: he wanted to make it so violent, it became funny. Here in the Midwest, I don't think a lot of people (at least in the show I saw) recognized the jest. Instead they applauded the blood-fest. I guess we are like the ancient Romans, wanted bigger and badder gladiator events.
I'm not sure what category the video falls under. I thought it attempting to be a music video. It isn't great, but some of the shots seem OK. Otherwise it is completely exploitative. I agree with others here. However, aren't most of the movies that come out that way?
I've got an idea for a screenplay, but I find myself thinking how to put more sex and violence in it because that is what is in demand... I'm resisting, but I can see the attention this video brings, and you wonder if going over the top isn't really the right thing?
I'll stick with my goal of having good cinematography and good acting...but I'm feeling the dark side influencing me
