Spart, i didnt say he beat her up. All i said was it just looked like he tackled her. Whatever you think he does to her after they go out of frame is what you read into it.

I think the video is wierd/interesting. would i make something similer, no, probly not. but doenst mean Chainmail shouldnt explore whatever he feels he needs too. I would be interested in seeing other things chainmail has done or will do.

Anyway, I thought that little security booth thing was really cool looking (the part when the guy was panning around the camera looking at the girl).

Well I didn't get the tackle then and I still don't get it now. It also doesn't take very long to realize they're gay (kudos?!), but it was kinda of sexist, nevertheless. Doesn't do much for the characters and the video anyway...

The look should too be worked on post. A little texture would be nice since, well, it is definately trashy; although it had very nice camera moves...

It's funny to see the way people react to things that are slightly off the straight and narrow. I bet the people who reacted strongest to this video and ones like it are the ones who can sit through a full news reel of real people getting killed and maimed and not bat an eyelid. ???
I was interested to observe this sort of double standard the other night some mates of mine where watching stuff off the net one was footage from Iraq of mutilated bodies both allied and Iraqi one guy was very opposed to watching it but when a clip of some kids (13-14) getting encouraged to beat the living **** out of each other was played the roles where reversed. ???
Each to there own, I sit somewhere in the middle and think both are just as disturbing as the other but for different reasons. Just because it is disgusting or disturbing to you does not give you the right to have a go at other people for watching it or for that matter for making the video.

hmmmmmmm is about all I have to say...I am not into watching 2 men getting it on...so I didn't watch this video all the way through...even if it was to be funny or "implied dirty content" I didn't really dig it.

for me it is funny to see that people actually think this vid was "slightly off the straight and narrow".
it presents homosexuality in the same stereotypeloaded way i myself would call "straight and narrow" and which i only know from people who are anti-gay, so this confuses me a lot... :o

and tawsy: are you honestly saying i have no right to speak up against a video that is promoting homosexualls as being perverted drugtaking party-all-night machoesque women beaters?

i have been working with the pro-gay movement for years, you wanne see something "slightly off the straight and narrow" - well fly over to my next shooting and grab some vaseline...
if the gay theme is only used for some pseudo shock effect, it's adding insult to injury, if it's intended to promote homosexuallity, imo it ended up on the wrong side of the tracks...
i feel this is a great forum with great people and normaly i wouldn't comment ones work in such an nontechnical way, but i just can´t talk about filters and lighting when the content of the vid is like this...

Hey Spart, I agree 100% with you. But I don't think that the last comment was adressed to you, more to people who couldn't stand it even this stereotyped verison of the gay culture. And I guess the video is adressed to them.

I didn't find this insulting at all, but then again, I'm not gay, so I can't really tell...

This is one of those things where I don't know how to feel. I'm open minded and secure enough for homosexuality not to bother me. So I see this as another person's art. Like the statue of David...Would I want to spend hours at a time carving some dudes penis out of marble...no...but that's just me...

Well, I've been lurking long enough. ROFL...

I was wondering why no one was warned that this video was so offensive... then finally watched it. Yea, it's gay, but big deal! If you made it all straight, I doubt it would even seem so edgy... Yea, the gal was taken down, and it did appear violent, but I think MTV suggests many worse things at times.

I guess the extreme violence in some clips bothers me more than sexual content. My European roots showing through, I guess.

I thought the scenes in the beginning weren't tight enough, but the rest was good video (if not my scene). Not my type of video, but I like the response you got! Drug use, some suggestion of violence, suggested sex, good ol' America... You should make an exact version that's totally straight, and no one will will blink...It would be a good experiment.

Anyway, like I said, I don't care for the subject matter. I also don't feel I hold a double-standard as someone implied that some do, in that I don't care for gratuitous violence or straight-hetero-sex. I don't feel any of them are totally necessary to tell a story.

That being said, and my personal views and choices out of the way, I still am left wondering: what did I just watch? A music vid? not at all. Some kind of pro gay media? I don't get it. Someone playing with their camera getting footage like 'just got my dvx, here's some grabs'? Someone tell me, what did I just watch?

So beyond my personal feelings, I think this piece lacked a lot. Straight or homo, none of the material accomplished anything with me. If you want to do gay stuff, then you're definitely allowed to, whether people like me like it or not. But cinematically this piece was lacking.

It's just like everyone was coming down on whats-his-name in this forum for his 'Jesus just left us' action thriller. The fighting in that was gratuitous and everyone told him so. It's supposed to promote Christianity but the material doesn't fit.

yea, homosexuality really is no big deal and some peoples short comments showed a lot of intolerance towards that >:( >:( >:(...
but the important point imo is that if homosexuality is just used to make a vid somehow "edgy", than this is plain unecessary explotaiton of already suffering people.
There is nothing wrong with showing sex,drugs or violence it just depends on the way how you show it.

my european roots tell me that no matter where you are from you should speak up against sexism and especially violence against women (eg by making a vid that exactly shows the latter... 8)

i'm just not into the whole man/blowjob thing. not to turn this into a gay/straight fight. in health class they told me men were made for women- i guess i was sorta brainwashed- so i think that way no matter what; and yes i have tried to keep an open mind but i am unable to do that about the subject.

well.. i just dont get what this was supposed to be.. certainly not a music video. was it propaganda? and if so i cant even be sure what its trying to say. what side was it on.. gay/straight? whatever.. I just felt like someone was trying to shock and awe me all "thirteen" style with a gay twist, and no specific message or plot. i didnt personally care for the content, just cause im not into vids/films that try to somehow glorify or exploit the whole sex/drugs/violence scene. i mean it has its unexploited time and place sure, but up close slapping me in the face is not that place. maybe im not intelectual enough for this sort of thing.. or maybe im too intelectual.. who knows. .. who cares. so, aside from all my muses derived from watching this thing, my question again to the maker would be :

"what is this supposed to be?"

please dont say "music video" , cause this takes the giant terd award as far as music videos go imho. .. and im not looking for a defensive answer on this.. just plain tell me what intended it to be, or for what purpose it was made.

My take is:

I dont really care as I do with everything else that doesnt concern me.  Its really none of business what people choose to do between themselves.   If you are offended, I apologise; but I am the resident POLITICALLY INCORRECT wise ass around here. (Just ask)

Do I understand it? (No, obvioulsy). Do I endorse it? (No.) Do I feel the pain and suffering as mentioned above? (No.) Do I care? (Not really.)

I think something went wrong during the development stages and a certain chromosone took a left turn instead of right. I look at Pam Anderson and think "Holy mother of God!" and the gay dude thinks "Oh my god. That dress is horrible"

What are you gonna do?

It just amazes me that bad press gets so much attention! & this post keeps us amused and at the top of the charts.

Even in 2004, with so much exposure and gereral consensus homosexuality doesnt go uncommented even by a technologicaly advanced group of guys such as on this forum! In my opinion though, I hope we use our tools (the camera I mean) to communicate, and get worthwile messages agross. Now what defines "worth your while" is another story!!!
