Music Video - I Am Terrified

Hey guys!

I've been lurking around here for literally a couple of years and thought i'd post my recent (and second) music video.

It's for a band out of Birmingham Alabama called I Am Terrified. Who just landed a record deal. I'm hoping that might get this video out a little further.

I Am Terrified - heaven knocking, hell rising

We shot this in a half day with two crew members (myself and my camera guy) and a behind the scenes photographer.

I used FCP for 95% of everything in post, color was used on a couple of shots.

Everything alternated between a wide angle lens and the stock HVX lens.

Thanks guys!

Pretty cool, but the shots got a bit repetative as it went on. I liked the lighting in the brick area, what was your setup on that? Had a very filmic look to it.

Love the band too, they could go somewhere if they keep making quality stuff like that.

Thanks guys,

In the brick room we had a chimera on a 650 Arri Fresnel, and we alternated the shutter speed between 1/250 and 1/500 if i remember correctly. The light was lifted to the top of the room and angled down towards him, we also had a ghetto ringlight i bought a lowes rigged up around the camera. It ended up looking pretty cool (after a lot of color correction). The effect comes through more without web compression. (ring in the eye, etc).

As far as repetitive shots, i agree. It was pretty difficult to get enough variety for a four and half minute song in a half day of shooting. But i tried to shake it up a bit with the light increasing towards the end, camera shakes, etc.

They're definitely going places! They're great guys with good songwriting sense.

Thanks man,

we went with a pretty minimal set up so we could move fast. Also, we were trying to place a lot of thematic emphasis on the growing light. Curious, how would you have approached this location?

i probably would have played off of the natural light a lot more using HMI's as fill and overall just a lot more contrast because the location gave me a bit of a "grimey" vibe and the somewhat flat lighting didnt really do the trick for me. Its really cool that you got to use a ring light but i just dont think that it was right for the location and song. When i think of ringlights i think of fashion photography or rap music videos. Im not hating, im just telling you what i would have done, its all about personal preference and you did a good job.
