Hi. Im 17 years old. I made this Music Video. I used the DVX100A for the whole thing. Tell me what you think of it, i need a lot of feedback. Thanks so much. Does anyone know where I could submit it in like a contest or anything. The girl in it is my sister. Song is "Beat of my heart" by Hilary Duff. LOW QUALITY. sorry.

Hey, I just tried watching this, and I can't lie but I couldn't watch the whole thing. Some of the shots and stuff looked good but they were brought down sooo much by the subject matter that it was very hard to look at them fairly.

The girls singing wasnt in sync and just the way she was lip synching was hard to watch. Now I totally understand that you have no control over whether or not your sister can act but it really brings down the piece. I think that by doing this tho, you must now have a better understanding of how music videos are put together and you'd be in a much better place if you tried doing a real one. My suggestion to you is to put a little time in to preproduction and go find a band to work with. They dont have to be that great just as long as they have something recorded. You would be suprised at how far a little confidence gets you in regards to talking to bands and the like, if you offer your work for free the first few times you will have people coming to you and very willing to pay.

I too am somewhat interested in finding an independednt music video festival but I don't know any. I would say tho that because of the subject matter of this vid it might not fair so well in a festival. Not trying to sound harsh but thats just my thoughts. It looks like you know what you are doing so try and find a few bands to work with and submit one of those pieces.

I definately understand the stage you are at as I am at a very similar one myself, I am also 17 and just now getting in to music video production so hopefully my suggestions will help you out. And feel free to take a look at my music videos and bash the hell out of em if it makes you feel better, because I am far from perfect too. Good luck.

Thanks...how Come Im Not Getting Any More Feedback...i Really Need It So Please People....gimee Something

be patient. you're doing good at 17. at 17 I couldn't do what you were doing now. so that's impressive.

with that said, I think this music video needs a lot more work if you're looking to submit it. You should find other bands to work with if you want to start getting into making music videos. You obviously can't submit Hillary Duff's music.
Other than those cheesy effects(in a way I guess it worked for this one- being sassy and all) it wasn't a bad attempt. Your lighting was not bad. Her lip syncing was pretty bad so I'd work on that. I would suggest you tighten up on performance and shot choices. It seems a little messy- like you just threw in anything. I know this was for Bat Mitsvah- and you probably had lots of fun- but if you were serious, you would take out some of those scenes where she's dancing with.. her mom? and way too many motion effects (multiple screens, zooming in and out digitally etc) that break up the image. You have to learn to take care of your footage- dont manipulate it just because you can. But then again, the web compression was bad so it was hard to tell what the heck was going on.

i liked some of your shots and some just looked plain boring- meaning, you have the potential to do it better.
I haven't seen any of your other work so I can't make an assessment. Keep practicing regardless, and get into doing more for the sake of experience. watch more movies. Study them.

I can see you have a lot of talent- but you need some direction. I dont wanna say that this music video is not bad a for a 17 year old because some 17 year olds can shoot better than some of us here.

my final advice is, stick around this forum and learn alot. watch alot. hey, this is the place to be.

Yo I totally agree with dvpixl. word.

I'm a big fan of keeping things simple. I think you are brimming with creative juices and pumped a lot of variety into the video. But I feel like i need some prozac or something now. However, i did find myself scrubing through the video to get to the "next part." So I guess I just contradicted myself!

I think you are on the right track .. but who the hell amI to say? And as far as your age? Dude...Mozart was creating at 5! When your videos DO screen (and they will if you stick with it) no one will know or care about age. They will judge/enjoy/criticize your work based on its own merits.

That being said, I think it's a good piece that you can learn a lot from. Dude, when you look at it 3 months or 3 projects from now you'll know exactly what I'm sayin!!!

Keep on rockin in the free world brutha!

Thanks

Dude,
I think the video was nice if you ask me but check this out, try to gather some of your friends that loves to sing, get someone that has a studio and record something, then, based on all the skills you have acquired, now shoot something.

You guys are right, this dude is 17, and with all these lil lil effects he is doing, I think he would be able to get the matrix thing going in some few more weeks. ...... keep it up!!!!

Oy! That video had potential... had.

You've had a great mindset for this project, but you still have to develop your eye. If you don't like the way a shot looks in post, (and I've learned this first-hand) you have to redo it. If you think it looks bad, how are the viewers going to feel? I've been too nonchalant when it comes to making some movies. If someone as scrupulous as the director doesn't like a shot, what is the "first-hand, first looks, first impressions" crowd going to say? You had road A (crap), and road B (genius) to take. You didn't take either road yet. You just sat there, staring at the two roads, and decided not to risk it, and just filmed right there. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It's almost a good thing! You're 17? I'm 16! We're still learning what to (and what not to) do! It's better to learn from mistakes than to not learn at all.

The effects were cool, and almost seemed mandatory for this kind of video... but the content in which the effects were used was off.

Keep filming, and I will too!

Thanx...most of the scenes were done on green screen....its also very low quality cause i had to upload it and stuff. I did it in my hosue in my basement with a few lights. Everyone thinks im a bit crazy so i dunno where im going to find ppl around here who would really help me out and act and put in as much time and effort as i do.
