Hey all, this is only my 2nd ever project. Im about halfway through editing the video, and am not sure how I feel about it, and would love some constructive feedback at this stage. I'm slightly concerned about all the "projector" stuff (youll see what i mean). I dont know if its actually adding anything.

Hey Rich.... The way you have it edited i don't see a purpose for the projector
what I feel is a performance video with a bunch of disconnected images.
I also didn't like the long intro.
I did think it was beautifully shot and I love the movement.
I would really try to connect with the theme of the song witch I got to be we can rebuild ourselves into someone better then we are and try to edit the images you have to that.
I would start with the projector turning on even add a projector noise then cut to the image of the girl on the screen... The shot of the lights coming up the guitar maybe go back to the lights coming up and one of those images from the start. I guess what I'm saying is if you are going to use the projector footage try and tell a story with it. Just my 2cents

Very nice work. Love the images, the tone of the color, and the song

Keep up the good work

I don't like the composition of a lot of the shots where you have put out of focus things in the foreground. I noticed a bunch near the beginning. When I took a photography class it became apparent to me how hard it is to create a composition with out of focus in the foreground... it's a very very hard thing to do imo and a lot more care has to be taken when doing something like that.

The projector screams "filler!". So you're right to be concerned. But I agree with Steelstring. If you're going to use it, REALLY use it.

I'm liking the intro, just that first shot bugs me.

A lot of great shots and great use of short DoF.

This is you're second project, as in second music video? Or second film/movie in general?

i like how high quality it is but I do agree that the whole projector thing looks so unnecessary.

Overall quality seems spot on with the exception of a couple things...

1) The DOF shot on the pedals is nice, but it's the only shot of its kind as fair as equipment goes. So in that regard, unless you decide to show more 'feet' or 'ground level' action, I think it could be replaced.

2) Agreeing with others, the 'projector shots' seem disconnected with the 'band shots', but I still feel that there is good storytelling potential there. As is, I feel those shots just come in a bit too late, as we, the audience, have already begun seeing the story unfold from a different perspective. Seeing the projector come on and then seeing the girl (or other footage) on the screen almost begs to be at the opening so that it gets us asking questions about who and what we're seeing. Right now, it's just a little too late, as it is only beginning when the song is already about to climax.

But in the end... I loved your lighting. Simple. Basic. I could see everything, and everything was very clean, which made your footage shine. Cudos.

I also really like the simple set design, and wouldn't change it in regards to it being a 'master shot/location'.

Here's a couple of videos it reminded me of:

Best of luck on future edits, keep us posted!

I liked your work a lot.
Like others have said already, the connection with the girl on screen should be established at the very start. The projector stuff, if intercut a little more with what's happening on screen, could be really cool. It's not the full video so I don't know the end but having the story on the screen more heavily featured would draw the audience into the meaning of the lyrics.
Nice song, lighting and set were minimal and a very good choice for the bands look. Like I said, I really liked it.
Cheers

Looks nice.

I had a hard time keeping track of the band. there seems to be lake of wide shots to help us to know who everyone is. I still don't know if there was three or four of them.

Also we there is a lack of singer eye contact with the screen. I think this would help pull the audience in. The shots are really cool and creative, but I don't know if I saw that guy on the street if I would ever recognize him. let us see him.

Looks good.

I like the direction it is going. great production value in that location and lights. I have no problem with the projector and have a feeling that it will be telling the story of what the singer has lost in his life. Great!

Nice footage, nice production value!

I'd like to see more of what the projector is putting on the screen, maybe it's at a Drive in movie theater instead of the tiny screen?

More cowbell!! : )
