Music Video DVX-100A, Redrocks Micro

I think your shots look great. The slow motion looks really smooth, were you doing the shoot in 60i and slow down to 24 trick? With that said, the shots are great but for flow throughout I think you should mix it up some. After a while it's just more slo-mo of I guess a retirement home?

Yes 60i to 24 using a shutter speed of 60 just to get some more light.

The slo mo was chosen to get their little feet and bodies in time with the music. They dance to all kinds of tempo and time signatures...waltzs etc. In real time nothing worked.

I understand about the repeditiveness. It's just me capturing one evening at a senior center. I was hopeing a fight would break out all I got was a man checking his watch.

Thanks for watching and commenting.

Oh I should mention i rented a Camerion Hydrolic dolly and an Oconnor Head

really thought it was beautifully pieced together with the music, editing and especial composition of the photography. well well executed. thanks for the post!

can u tell me what process did you use to go from 60i slomo to 24?

Tech Stuff

Camera One DVX 100A

Scene 6

DL +3
MPED -5
V Detail THIN
All other settiings at 0
Everything else as CINE-LIKE as the 100A will allow.

One tip - I allways gaffer my scene selector knob in place as one bump can distroy a shoot if the next scene over is a different frame rate or something.

35mm Adapter - Redrocks Micro

Lenses - Nikkor 24, 50, 180 Mostly the 50 and 180 because I had to keep my distance at times... if one of them tripped over me or the dolly, fell and broke a hip or something Id feel guilty forever.

All iris' wide open because of low light issues.

Dolly - Cameleon HD400 hydraulic dolly. When my 1st AC was charging the system I was grabbing the hand held shots

Head - Oconnor 2575c - or something real close to that model. Yes, that's far too much head for that camera but I like a heavier feel to my shots.

Footage was shot at 60i sitha shutter of 60. Normally I would shoot a shuter of 120 but I felt like bringing in lights of the size I would have needed would have freeked out the seniors... not to mention the complaints about heat and safety in general.

Footage was imported to FCP and then deinterlaced using JES Deinterlacer (Free Download) Footage was then conformed to 23.98 using Cinema Tools. Then placed in a 23.98 timeline in FCP.

CC Final Cut Pro - for skin tones correstion and a bit of crushing with a touch of Magic Bullet For Editors ONLY for a bit more contrast.

Also FCP was used to make sure/adjust for a broadcast safe picture.

Cake - Sams Club. I was told that a cake would keep the complaints to a minimum... It worked.

Crew - Camera Operator (ME) and a Dolly Grip/1s AC

The main issue was time. I had 2.5 hours to shoot everything documentary style - no shots were set up that's just how the evening went down. And as my lenses we're wide open I just had to make the shallow DOF work to my advantage.

Thanks for asking

Kip

Sweet footage! How $$ did the Redrock cost and if you rented it. where? When you taped in 60i, what does FCP do, or what do you do in FCP to make it 24p, is it a setting, with the "Footage was imported to FCP and then deinterlaced using JES Deinterlacer (Free Download) " where can you download that? Did you rent the lenses?

I really liked the video and song... did the artist get you to make this? I looked them up on itunes and thought some songs were great. Reminds me of Fionna Apple/Radiohead put in a blender. Great stuff.

Your video was great with the slomotion used to sync them up. You did however cause me to fear that someday that might be me in a video like this!

With FCP you just import the 60i Footage without the advanced pulldown. It's just a way to get in into the computer, really.

Once the footage is imported I just hide FCP and do all my deinterlacing using the Scratch Disk folder. You can do all that in batches rather than one at a time.

Google search JES Deinterlacer. You should find it along with the version that works best with the OS you are using.

I'm sure there are other programs that deinterlace as well.

When your done you import the new Cinema Tools conformed footage into FCP and then put it into a 23.98 timeline.

Hope that makes sence.

I am the artist. We're an electronic trio out of Nashville Tennessee.

More shorts about us on www.youtube.com/user/venushum

All shot on the DVX (except for the Fighting For Love music video.)

Oh! Very cool! You are talented in more then one medium! I hope my comparison to fionna apple/radiohead/beck wasn't insulting.... :undecided... sometimes when I compliment bands and compare them to others, they dislike the comparison. :) (It was meant as a huge compliment as those rank upon some of my well liked artists.)

Anyhow, I am surely going to pick up Pink Champagne and Go To Sleep on Itunes music store, maybe some others... It was exciting to find out that you are not only making some sweet video's but the music as well! (In your case, music and then the video)
Keep it up! :)

you guys rock, really looooooove the singers voice and the music production is super dope. i especially like that granular synth sound you guys have

That's mostly Tony and Annette...I have to make up for being the week musical link with my filmwork.

Kip

come on now don't sell your self short, i mean your floatie pen collection alone puts you in a uniquely higher plane than any musician i've ever known :D
but seriously i dig your cinematography and your color correction is consistantly and seriously ILL!!
