Welcome to the new age of music videos 2009 - 2019. Where MTV shut down it's last music video show, where people now download songs without paying them, where the economy has headed south, and where music videos have become low budget and post apocalyptic. These are the days where music artists can now buy a cheap used HVX and shoot their own videos. What this means is that you'll stop seeing "corporate wal-mart style" music videos, (okay at least it wont' be common). Anyways, the point of me posting this video is because it's a classic example that the cinematography techniques used from an amateur film maker doesn't dictate if the video will ever be a hit (which has over 7 million already). There's alot that a cinematographer can learn from this video if he doesn't have a huge budget for 5 ton lighting package. You can obviously tell that the cinematagrapher selected his shots based on what types of instruments he heard. During the chorus he used high paced shots with alot of movement and chaos and during the verses he kept it smooth and steady. And check out what shots were used during certain beats. You don't need to be Ray Kay to make a music video anymore.
Now the question is, will high budget videos ever be as common as they used to be?
