what did you use to compress that thing ? it looks great especially for its size .

and all that aside you did a really good job.

Thanks... I did a QTref from Avid, then exported it with QuickTime PRO to a H.264 file at 1400 kbit/s

that's a great video you got there! I loved the green curtain, and the lighting was nicely done =)

really intense editing towards the end too, loved it.

for some reason i keep getting...

"The requested URL /files/23271/Skin D by C Glans2.mov was not found on this server."

while watching it I found a few things i would have done differently, but they were basically personal choices and really nit-picky, expecially considering this is one of the best videos I've seen on this board. Great lighting and color correction, great job!

I was trying to figure out what made it look so interesting and i think it was that i don't remember seeing really anything over exposed. Since you knew you were going to cush the black, did you just forget about black detail and focus on getting the highlights right?

On that same note (I can't believe I'm saying this), could you share your camera settings? I wonder if you're doing something differently than me to get that perceived boost in latitude.

THANKS and great job

editing in this was top-notch. I love the stop motion effects with the iv bag and stuff. My only knock on this is the green curtain. It just doesn't fit the mood of the song to me. I think a setting like dark woods or something like that would be much more dramatic. That's the only bad thing i can say about this. Hmmm, I think that the singer in the video didn't look very inspired.....ok that's it.

Personally I really liked the green curtain, but I just really dug the look, you may be right that something else may have "served the song better" (I DO kinda agree about the singer, but that guitar player looked really cool).

I didn't think those were stop motion shot. I thought they were kinda supposed to LOOK like stop motion, but now I'm curious to know what exactly the technique was.

Thanks for the great comments!

It was actually made without any money at all and when I went through old theatre backgrounds, I stumbled across the green curtain. So I thought, what the heck, if I want to be original I might as well make something out of one of my favourite directors (David Lynch). So, I made the red room in green :D

There were no stop motion in this. Instead, some shots, like the hand coming out from the sand, is filmed at a shutter speed of 250 or 500, making that "Saving private Ryan" motionblurless images. As for shutter speed, I recommend never going under 60, because the motionblur at 25 looks like crap on any video camera. Most of the video is shot with 60 or 120 in shutter speed and the iris at "open" all the time.

I did ALOT of things in post also. I used a sapphire effect called "filmeffect" to get some grain (which can't be seen in that compressed video). With it I also got some nicer colors. On top of that I color corrected the shadow curves (Avid) so that the red goes over to a slight green color. To balance it I put the mid range hue into a slightly warm color. After that I made another layer of color correction where I took out about 25-35 % of all colors.
(mostly I do this for all my projects because it creates nicer filmlike colors)

I filmed it in 25p advance (PAL) mostly with a shutter around 60-120 and the lightning consist of only one red head together with a softbox, directly above.

As for the clothes... I told them to take their performance clothes and they did :D

Thanks again for the nice response!

wow, sounds like the look just came from talent rather than tech. I need more practice :)

excellent work dude

Maybe a third alternative... alot of experiments and alot of

My only criticism would be to MOVE THAT CAMERA!!! I kinda lost interest about 1/3 of the way through. Other than that, your shizzle looked grizzle!! Good lighting.

Great video! The only gripe i have isn't your fault - the band...it isn't my taste of music. Otherwise you did great! I can only imagine what post prod was like...

"MOVE THAT CAMERA"....

Yes, that's the only thing I regret. Problem was that my homemade dolly wasn't working... If I had planned it better I would have gotten it fixed before, so your right, that's the downpart of it.

Hey man .. .link isn't working!

Hey Glazarus!
Great looking video, congrats. Can you please tell me more about that CC process where you take out 25-35% of colour out, i`ve heard that it gives some really good results (well, like you said more filmic). Do you just make a final adjustment layer above all others? How exactly do you take that colour out??
Thanks you.
