Music video and narrative: Do they complement each other?

All the music videos we've been releasing with Not Literally we have tried to include a narrative in the video whenever possible. It helps keep people interested and watching.

you dont need a narrative - i dont think that is what keeps people hooked at all during the dynamic of someone consuming a piece of music with visuals, in fact sometimes narratives bog down a video with self indulgent film making. There is a art to telling a story - and enhancing the music experience without being heavy handed.

Also if a piece of music is very awesome - it will make a terrible video seem not so bad - and vice versa - a terrible video can cut a great songs eternal shelf life kinda short.
