Ok, I did this Music Vid purely to test the Panny and start getting used to it.
All shot on the 14140, 20 and 45.

POC4 are a Great Band who wrote a cover of Zombie in their own language as a song against Woman Abuse.
The song is titled 'Eensaamheid' which means 'loneliness'.

My goal was to create a 'live' feel (All band shots EXT, hand held) and to tell as much of a story as I could in under 4 minutes.

I didn't apply much of a grade other than to pump up the blues to give everything a slightly burned out sterile look (Blue is generally a very emotional color).

90% of the footage was shot at 50fps and sped up in the edit to give me a lot more creative freedom.

50fps really punishes you in post if you do not throw enough light at her. (As you will see in a lot of scenes).

Forgive the contrasty bits here and there, I am working on 3 simultaneous projects and didnt have much time to fiddle and fix in post but hopefully it will give some of you an idea of what can be done with the Panny.

In my opinion, this camera was born for story telling!
Where I had time to light, she sang like a Canary!

I welcome any criticism on this piece as long as it is accompanied by advice.
I am particularly interested in thoughts on how to combat the noise at 50fps - I really lit some of those scenes up the wazoo and still got punished in post!
Thanks in advance.

Wilbur.

I know it take some time to get the best out of this camera so look out for blown highlights and chroma clipping. Great effort in doing this video, you might consider making the shoots more consistent in exposure between cuts so it's more seamless.

Thanks for the advice, I definitely need to up my shooting discipline!

Methinks when I get to grips with this baby, Rabbits will be flying out of hats in no time :)

Wilbur, I tried to watch your video but I was told it was private by You Tube and that I would need to accept a "friend request."

I enjoyed the video very much. The shot of the singer with the actress in the foreground that you anchored around worked for me. The shot of the boyfriend grabbing her arm, also very effective and I thought the actress was great. I'm more of a locked down/dolly narrative guy but I found the tight angles and hand held worked well in context. As to working with overcranking and noise I'll have to get back to you. I'm sure others here will have valuable insights. I've had the camera a week and my tests have yet to include it. Sometimes I thought things looked a bit hot, but it went well with the piece. Nice job. Thanks for sharing it.

Apart from a couple of highlights I really liked the narrative component. Well done.

Pertaining to noise, what settings did you use?

This was my first outing as my own DP so I didn't fiddle with too much.

Mostly I fiddled with the ND filter thingie on the front of the camera and played with the iris. The interior sequences were shot F1.7 mostly (Or the widest each lens would allow me to go).

Setting the ISO is the next thing I want to learn about, actually shooting another few tests on Saturday.

@hscully - Thank you, appreciate the input.

@Noel Evans - Thanks. I really have to get my head around the highlights (especially in harsh sunlight). I am shooting a 'found footage' Sci-fi feature at the end of March with this cam - any thoughts/suggestions?

Looks like maybe you had an open shutter on your overcranked portions? Makes sense given you said you had trouble getting proper light levels for it, but I dont particularly like the open shutter look. I'd always take noise (extra gain) over an open shutter.
