What started out a few months back as just random test shots when I got my sony F3 slowly turned into a mini documentary because why let the footage go to waste? All the B Roll of my friends band recording two new singles was sitting on my computer so I decided to round them up and shoot some interviews and try to tell a story with it as we went along. So a lot of last minute decisions and what not but it was a blast.

All the B roll was shot on the Sony F3 with a nikon 35-70mm F3.5 and Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens. This was when I was first learning to shoot slog and was shot in my other friends recording studio so really just went along with the lighting that was there and was shooting at 3200 and 6400 iso to the internal codec.

The interview portions were shot just this past weekend on the Sony F3 and samyang 85mm F1.4 @ F2 ISO 3200 and the Sony A6300 as the main camera with the Nikon 50mm F1.8 @ F2 ISO 3200. For lighting it was just a single alien bee strobe in a medium softbox with grid using the modeling light as the light (Like I said last minute decisions to shoot in a location since we had most of the band members there that day). Also used a single bounce board to bounce a little bit of light back onto the face.

Really nice stuff - I'm impressed by how nice a result you got out of a simple strobe modelling light!

I was just as impressed as you. I did some noise removal with neat video but honestly it was more for the B roll, the interviews were really clean even at 3200 iso and probably could of gotten away without to much noise removal. Also an image from the lighting setup as the soft box was close to the talent which help out a lot of course and there was a grid on it as well.

Nice work!
I sort of envy you for going with the internal codec, it honestly would have worked out for almost every project I´ve done yet I only used it once on a paid shoot. And the time I´ve spent rigging external recorders trying to keep the package small...

Really? I got my hands on the atomos ninja 2 borrowed from a friend but havent got ot test it out yet (got to go buy a harddrive for it). I hear it makes the camera a lot better so I've been really tempted to give it a try before investing in an external recorder because like you said, the internal codec actually holds up pretty damn good.
