its hard to believe questions like that still going on that boardstzasan said:Interesting...So there's no simple solution for multiply lavs??? That's almost hard to believe.
ptalsky said:Actually, there are many different options for capturing as many as 10 (or more if you use Metacorder) descrete channels of audio. But the cost is extremely high. For example, you can get a Deva V which will capture 10 channels, and is an amazing recorder, and the one used on many if not most high end productions today. But, it will set you back at least $15,000 (used). Or the Cantar, which records 8 channels, and runs a little less (like $13,000).
A lower cost option that is starting to appear on many "pro" sound carts: A Mac, combined with a Motu Traveler and either Boom Recorder or Metacorder. I think the limit on this combo is 8 tracks, but I'm not entirely sure. But, be advised that the "pros" that are using this set up are still mostly using it as a back up to their Deva. Only a few have moved to this setup as their primary recorder.
Or you can do what most of us mere mortals do. Boom Right and all lav's left (or visa versa) and hope for the best. You will need a mixer to accomplish this. There are a couple of "baggable" mixers (Wendt X5 and DVMix6) that can handle this, or you can go with a mixing board (of which there are many that can handle this...stay away from the Behringer mixers...IMNSHO).
So, you actually have lots of options. Just depends on what your budget is.
Or, go with the best option -- hire someone to do your sound for you.

Is this a common solution?
i never had even one production in my life asked for separate tracks ( exclude music recording) as a main recording , usually in real life ( not so armature films that you have all the time in the world to play on your computer) no one like to remix soundmixer mix from the field if it acceptable . only if something goes wrong the editors open the isos . time is money and if it wasn't like that the sound mixer profession was blowed with the wind and we were replaced by idiots who can record everything separate for the future mix in the post .Petrus said:Recording this is another matter and was dealt with above. For the best possible post production possibilities you shoud record them on separate tracks, not mix them down on 2 tracks then and there. Which is much simpler, of course, needing only a 4 channel mixer, no 4 (or more) track recorder.

Be careful when you say the 100B can synch timecode...you need to qualify that. It can synch timecode between cameras. It cannot be jammed from an external source (that I've heard of...though I know people are trying to figure out how to do it.) By external source I mean slate, TC recorder or TC generator. Nor can it jam to any of those devices.
