Multiple Wireless Mic Problem

Hello all,

I have a dilema involving the Sennheiser wireless mic system EW100 G2. I have two receivers and two transmitters and I was hoping that I could rig multiple transmitters to one receiver but I can't. With the HVX200 only having one 2 channel input (XLR Input2), what is the best way I can rig multiple wireless mics up to the HVX and get 2 channels of audio out of 2 wireless mic receivers????

Thanks,
Carl

Probably need to add an audio mixer into the chain between the HVX and the receivers. If say 4 channels, perhaps feed 2 to the left and 2 to the right channel of the HVX, panning from the mixer to the stereo out. What I would be concerned about is say one of the mic pairs per channel picks up a bump or some noise, whilst the other mic on the shared channel is capturing dialog, then you will be off to do an ADR session... Discreet audio recording channels ideal, and perhaps the mixed feed into the HVX for guide/sync in post. This creates more post issues and cost. Perhaps boom op on one channel to get as many of the talent as practicable and lav up one person (lead talent) wireless on the other? Just some ideas, issues, no real answers.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use 2 wireless mics with 2 wireless receivers and the HVX. All youo need to do is plug one wireless receiver into input 1 and one wireless receiver into input 2. Switch the CH1 select switch to input 1 and the CH2 select switch to input 2. Make sure the 48v power is switched off on both channels on the camera.
Now if you are trying to add a boom in there as well, then you will need a 3 channel mixer. Or at least a 2 channel where you would plug bothe wireless to and mix them to one channel of the camera and plug the boom in direct although that is not ideal.

but if I rig up an receiver in each input won't I be recording in Mono?

Yes, that is how you want it. You mix the dual mono (stereo) in post, if needed, or through a mixer before going into the camera.

I recommend the mixer method, then you can control the stereo image with the Pan controls, and balance them the way you want.

so I should pretty much handle it in Soundtrack Pro

If you have one person on the left talking to the person on the right, don't you want the left persons' sound to predominantly come out of the left side speaker, and the person on the right to have most of their sound to come from the right? (this is not a question in which I am seeking an answer)

...You say you want a stereo track, yet you continue to imply you want everything to come equally out of both sides (mono). :undecided

Dialog should be recorded in mono. Your camera channels will import into your NLE as 2 seperate mono tracks. From there you can then pan them how you like, left, center, right, left of center, whatever.
