Multiple outputs or adapters for lavs?

I have been using some G2's with the stock mics for a year or so, with decent results. Now I want to upgrade the mics, probably to the Countryman B6.

But I also have realized that about 80% of the time I use a lav, a wired mic would work. Since a wired mic will give me better audio, I was also looking into that.

So my question is:

Is there a way to put a pigtail, or use an adapter on the lav cable so that I can use it with both the wireless transmitter and an XLR cable into the camera or mixer. I would rather buy 2 mics than four.

I don't imagine I am the first person to ask this....

Sorry Barry, I am not sure I am understanding you.

To be clear, I have 2 G2 wireless sets (transmitters and receivers). Is there a way to use a single lav mic for both connecting to the transmitter I already have AND an XLR cable if I choose to go wired with the same mic?

Your post probably answered me...Are you saying that there is a different G2 transmitter than the one I have (pin jack for the lav) that can be used with an XLR terminated lav cable?

Sorry for being obtuse

Buy your mics wired for your wireless and then get either an Ambient Eumel or Sennheiser makes an XLR adapter for their mics that should also work. Just remember that you need to both convert to XLR and provide ~5 volt power from 48 volt phantom supply so a simple cable adapter isn't sufficient.

What I think Barry is talking about (although I hesitate to speak for the indomitable Mr. Green :D ) is buying the Countryman mics (would that be Countrymen?) with XLR ends for wired use, and then using the, um, "butt plug" transmitters with them instead of body packs.

You're talking about putting a "break" in the lav connection... call Guy from DVestore and see if they can do this for you. Otherwise I know Trew Audio will do it. This means that you can use the regular lav connection and also use the same lav on an XLR in. Trew will know what you mean if you explain it the way you have in this thread... or they'll get the point quickly if you say you want a lav, but wired for a break so you can use it on the transmitter or XLR in of your cam.

On that note... I feel largely responsible for pushing the B6 as the logical upgrade option... but I gotta' say... if you're in the range of B6 on price, you should consider a Sanken COS11 from Guy (dvestore)... he will probably be at the same approximate price on a much better (overall) lav.

I've been using B6 for YEARS now (on G2)... but also using a Sanken COS11 for years (on Lectro)... and in the past year I got a COS11 from Guy for my G2... and I don't know why I expected anything less (considering my YEARS of experience with the COS11 already) but even running into the G2... the COS11 is significantly better then the Countryman B6, in every regard.

While I bragged the B6 up for years, based on sound quality and the ability to hide it, based on it's tiny size... the Sanken sounds better AND is more sensitive... while actually hiding better under clothing with the little white rubber thing AND having less handling transmission through the cable (by far).

Trust me... check into the COS11... for best price check into Guy... and beyond that... what you want is a "break" in the lav cable to use it with either G2 or XLR (state this need when you call).

here is what you need if you plan to use the g2/3 connector. i've got 2 of these that i use with b6's.
