Hi,

Read a lot and I understand that the 'freezing' on the 15.4" screen is gone (?)with Panther, so it's likey an option for me to BUY a PowerbookPro for editing now.

I'm going to edit/compose a long form doc (50 min) with Canon HDV 25P video, (Canon A1 and HV20) and timelaps animation. Shooting HDV 25P edit roughly in HDV , conform timeline to ProRes 422 (HQ) , grade with Prores 422.

Do I forget something? can you give me some more advise on this combi?
Is it powerful enough to do the job? Is Proress 422 HQ fast enough/working on a PowerbookPro? I will buy an extra keyboard and 23" screen.

Apple powerbook pro 2.4 with 256mb videocard , 160Gb disk, 4 GIG memory
FCP6.0.2
E-sata adapter 2/ch for the powerbook
E-sata enclosure with 500 GIG disks.

I know ...a Powermac is more able to the job, its just that this editing is needed on the job, often abroad. I'm reading, but have to make a decision.

No one is reacting? Thats good!!

So it seems that my thinking is without any troubles, and that this system is going to work. Great!

ProRes for editing is more easy for the processor then the HDV signal anyway, so the bottleneck is the throughput on disk. With a extern E-sata en soft raid 0 , I think that problem is solved too.

Color and rendering is more a problem I think with the 2.4 Intel...

A 15" Macbook Pro will be fine for what yo want to do, you won;t need ProRes 422 at all, you can just edit in the HDV Codec. I use a 1.67 GHZ G4 powerbook to edit DVCPRO HD at times and it works great. HDV should be great for you. I owuld reccomend that you choose a 7200 rpm Hard Drive.

FYI Pwerbook's are now Macbook Pro's and Powermac's are now MacPro's and it's been that way since the transition to Intel Procs.

Thanks answering. I'll let it work with external disks, and an E-sata (NitroAV SATAStar 2-port eSata )card. It's more convenient. And I know... I even name an I-pod a walkman ... :>)
