multi clip editing with camera that start/stops

I am editing a multicam shoot and want to create a multicam clip with my two cameras. Camera A never stopped running, but Camera B stop several times. The time code was synced on Free-Run so there is no issues with syncing, but I want all camera B's footage to be on the same video track. Right now when i select all the clips FCP creates a multicam clip with several video tracks (for every new clip). Is there a way i could have it place every clip from camera B into one track so i can edit using camera 1, camera 2, as opposed to going up to camera 50?

One way would be to place all of the camera b shots onto one timeline in order. Then export a new clip, then merge that with camera a to create a new multiclip.

The trick is you would need to compensate for the gaps where b camera stopped recording. So to do this properly, you'd want to line b and a up on a timeline together. Make sure they are in sync, then get rid of a- export b and then make the multiclip with the lined up b and a. F-ing a....

It's an option, however, im working with DVCproHD and a very big project so i don't want to take up more HD space. Also, everything is logged beautifully and i don't want to have to go through that again (plus if i have to re-import the cards for any reason, it'll be a pain to re-online cause i won't know what clip is what from whatever card. Thanks for the thought though.

I've also heard about using camera angles. does anyone know if this would be an option for this?

not sure what you mean by that. Also if you're already working in DVCPROHD you'd gain nothing by onlining- you're already at the highest possible resolution you can get. I'd put everything out to ProRes and finish it within FCP. The trick with multicamera is you need to keep both cameras running.

True about quality, but i've noticed some glitches in the video that i dont want to deal with now. Especially since i have hrs of footage and i won't be using most of it. also, if there are problems with files, or clips get corrupt/deleted for whatever reason. better safe than sorry.

The reason i started and stopped was so i could capture Slow-Motion and other variable frame rates.

i'm considering using the timeline method and adding slug in between, but instead of outputting a full res, i would export a reference movie. Still a temporary solution though. would think other people would have this issue in the past.

Ah well if you do shoot off speed then it's not really a and b camera situation any more. To get the benefit of multiclip sequences in FCP, all cameras need to run at the same speed and format- otherwise there's no sync. In that case I'd just slug out the off speed sections and treat it like a normal edit. You can still multiclip b camera shots at sync speed though.
