multi-camera shoot

I will be shooting my family's christmas party on christmas eve, and i was going to use my dvx100b as the main camera for walking around and talking to people with, and an old panasonic cam that i have from wayy back as a B-roll camera thats going to be setup on a tripod just recording the dinner table or whatever

So here we go...the old panasonic is obviously not 24p, but since I record 24pA through my dvx100, would i be able to drop 60i footage into my 23.97p(24p) timeline and have it play properly?

edit: also, what would be the best method to letterbox the old panasonic footage?

I've run into situations like this before where I have no choice but to edit on a 29.97 timeline to avoid having the 29.97 footage look choppy. Though what results is a stark difference between the DVX and old handicam footage. You can look into Magic Bullet Frames from Red Giant Software to turn the interlaced footage into 24p, but results may be iffy.

Color correction is important in making the edits look a little bit smoother.

Here's an edit of my Shinkendo dojo's Sakura Festival demonstration in Little Tokyo this year. http://www.vimeo.com/2064233.

The DVX shot the main angle shot on sticks while it just so happened that another student was filming with his way old sony handheld. I had to resist the urge to remove pulldown with the DVX footage and slap the thing together in a 29.97 timeline and try the best I can to make the color of the shots match.

I hope that helps somewhat.
