Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

looks great man, someting about what you do...all your shots look so filmic, dont know what it is though!!!

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Another home run. I especially liked the shot of the lighthouse at night, superb.

Having grain in this one doesn't distract or detract at all. I think we get so used to the sharp image and low-light sensitivity of The Precious that we forget that there's lots of ways to present material. I agree with one of the early posters on this thread that the grain added a subtle 'that was then' feel to the piece. Note to self!

Hey, D, you've inspired me to just head out and shoot some material I've been itching to get. The temp here is 55 degrees and it is slightly overcast, so I've got this soft light going. Woohoo!

Hopefully, I can share a little later!

;)

Aha, if my timing is correct, I can say ditto to Pierre's

Although new to these forums, and digital image recordation,
I know what I like - and I love your films,

"Mukilteo" caught my I because I have never seen it associated
with anything besides that place (assume it is the white man's
name for the band who lived there). I love place names,
what little I have learned of NW coast culture - the linguistics
and "medicine" fascinate me, and mostly my love of nature!

Of the 8 years that I lived on Whidbey Island, 1 and 1/2 of
them I commuted to Kirkland to work as a tech support grunt
for MS 95, 98, IE 3,4,5. I had been an "organic farmer" on So
Whidbey - medicinal herbs - Echinacea Puperea

Back to the chase...
Like IDOG, I cried. From the joy of seeing beautiful images of
a place that I love (not to mention my missing it, but not in the
winter). I am residing in Tucson AZ,
where summers are hellatious.
I annually travel to Quadra Island, B.C.
usually spending several days on Whidbey, where (still?) resides
an excellent massuese with the name of Brenda Dempsey.
Any relation? Sister?
Pardon my presumptuousness, but the excellence of her skills,
your skills, and perceived age proximity....
If I am way out of line here, tell me to f***off
(I mean it to be complimentary, but do not know the protocols
if these forums - I'm a newbie - they labeled me "Trainee"
but did not issue me a training manual)

Enough of my rhetoric, I'm leaving...
going to get in line for the your DVD. :D

Best wishes to you and yours,

- BRM -

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

All your work has impeccable framing. I used to watch marymoor park before going to bed - lowered my heart rate (in a good way).

Great to see all of your pieces compiled on a site - I noticed an intro in one of the pieces a shot of your DVX setup but couldn't tell what it was. Noticed the french flag but was wondering about the rest - like lens setup???

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Benson,

I have a cavision mattebox (http://www.cavision.com) it's the 4x4 bellows version. If you go to Panasonic's site and download the brochure for the DVX, you'll see this mattebox on the camera.

Here's the link to the brochure:
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?disp layTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=68668&catGroupId=14571&modelNo=AG-DVX100A&surfModel=AG-DVX100A

Click on the "brochure" link to the right of the page and then scroll to page 5 of the brochure for a picture.

I also use a 1.6x teleconverter from Century Optics quite extensively. I would be lost without this lens, best accessory I ever bought for the DVX, especially given the subject matter of my films.

brmclaughlin, thanks very much for the comments. It's very gratifying that my films evoke such an emotional response in people.

...and thank you everyone for the kind comments...I really do appreciate it.

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Disjecta,

Do you use the mattebox with the the 1.6 teleconverter

I'm just wondering how it fit.... cause I'm planning to get the mattebox but I also need to use the 1.6.

Tks..

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Yes I do, but the mattebox hole does not fit over it. I just buffer it against the lens. This is not a big deal because the teleconverter is not zoom-through, meaning you can not go full wide on it without seeing the barrel of the lens, so there are no vignetting issues with this set up. You can tighten the screw on the bars and the mattebox stays in place without any problems.

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Great stuff as always! Inspires and makes me wish I had talent as well ;)

toilet_bob, get your ass outside and start shooting. It being too cold is a feeble excuse

Yeah! Hopefully you will end up with better footage than I did! Depending on how cold it is you may want to bring something warm for your tripod. No joke either.

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

disjecta,

Man, I know it has been said here hundreds of times and your sick of hearing it, but everytime I go back and watch your films I have to say something.

Fantastic Work.

I want to know when that DVD will be available so I can watch it on my tv instead of my computer monitor.

Re: Mukilteo (No Gain, No Pain)

Thank you, comments, good or bad, are always appreciated.

I'm shooting for June or so for the DVD. I'm working on some projects right now that will be included on the disk.
