MTF Nikon Adapter / Loose Lenses

My MTF has been just fine, but I want the Opti one for the aperture ring. Opti, emailed you twice to no avail. I am interested. Also wish to get in the que for an EPIC unit.

Thanks.

Its funny, my MTF adapter (and everyone I've talked to) is extremely tight will all 6 of my primes and 3 zooms. Is the looseness with 3rd party lenses? Sigma, Tamron, etc.

I can confirm this too and not pleased. None of my 5 old Nikon glass manual lenses will even go on even a bit, yet a Tokina 16-50 goes on nice and snug! All of them however fit snug on an old Nikon FG-20 SLR?

MTF has told me send it back and they will replace the mount, my fear of course is obvious, I will end up with loseness when using non-Nikons.

While the Prolock is something I'd very much like to have, there was quite a bit of sticker shock finding out that Red owners were getting theirs for $200 less than F3 owners. Seems a little unfair, after all they have the expensive super pro camera. And this isn't for the crowd that can afford PL lenses. (Yes, I know there are some physical differences.)

Any thoughts on a discount for DVXuser members?

My MTF is REALLY snug, but works great. I have a feeling that this is a case of turning mole hills into mountains: if it's on there, it's good.

LTC all traditional Nikon receivers will all eventually loosen up depending how often you change lenses. This thread is the proof of that. We went through this two years ago with Red and it resulted in the ProLock. Really simple.....
BTW if they are too tight you're wearing out your (much softer chrome plated brass) lens mounts very quickly and soon they just won't mount...

So guys what do you suggest I do with my MTF? As mentioned previously, mine fits my tokina perfectly, but not a single nikon old manual lens of mine can go on period. Mr Mike said to send it in to have mount replaced but I fear ending up with the very problem mentioned in this thread.

Switch it. The Tokina can be tightened up with the tiny screwdriver trick mentioned many posts above.

Just an update on this, Abelcine (awesome awesome service) sent me out another MTF adapter to try out and they tested it before shipping it to me! I got it and it works perfectly now with my Nikon AIS manual lenses, and 3rd party nikon lenses like Tokina, etc...

So there are definitely some issues with the tolerances of the MTF Nikon to F3 adapters, and if you are unlucky to get one like that simply return it for exchange, or you can return to Mike Tappa in the UK who would be happy to switch it out for you. That is great service too!
