Are you familiar with Jan Svankmajer?

I assume you are, but if not, rent Alice, or his collection of shorts.

Really enjoyed it. The only time when I was (momentarily) broken out of the spell was when, on the dolly-out to reveal the stack of cards, we see that the house is floating.

Don't necessarily dislike the idea (and maybe it was purposeful), but I almost wonder at that point if, for all the high-imaginitiveness, a quick shot of reality (cards on a table, maybe even a shot of Mr. Fox from behind, off to the side, with the back of his "human head" showing), would ground the remainder of the film and punch up the overall creepy effect. It could of course still be in-line with the overall style...just one tiny step closer to something we as the audience could imagine more easily. Instead of being momentarily broken out, we (or I) would be pulled deeper into it...despite having very little to associate personally with your Mr. Fox.

But that's really just something I wondered. Great job with this overall. As noted above, the sound design really plugs into everything, but I was also very impressed with the composition and the pacing of the edit.

Hi, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I like Svankmajer a lot, obviously an influence on Mr Fox. I didnt think that people would really like this film, so you have all made my day. Thanks very much. As for the house of cards bit, I put it in to fill the film out a bit more, otherwise it was all just a bit too fast.

Good stuff, man. Good style. Very creative. Very Svankmajer (in a good, not-too-derivative way).

i watched your other films on youtube. Great stuff. Have your shorts screened in festivals? Do you just work independently? Do you just film things on a whim, when an idea strikes?

sorry for all the questions....but im genuinely curious

I loved the Zombie short....creepy as hell...

Hi, I havent had any shorts screen in festivals yet, never entered any, I would like to though. Yes, I just work independently on my own things but i definately want to persue a career in film. I pretty much make films that I would like to see, some of them are planned out, others not so much. Mr Fox was thought about for a long time, did a load of storyboards and drawings of the character for pre production, I go to art school so I try and make it fit my course as much as possible. I usually do a lot of drawings for characters and such. I'm glad you liked the other films too, thanks for the interest,

Max

Great stuff, A Fox work Orange! Kubrick would be proud!

Fantastic visuals, and great sound. : )

Thanks, the old film look was a combination of countless hours grading in after effects and a real film grain overlay that I made by photographing a piece of grey card with an slr film camera, I had the film developed, put it over the footage and fiddled about with it until it looked right, it's a 5 second looped clip.
