Mr. D90 goes to Washington

Hi All... I scored a ticket to the Obama inauguration and plan to produce serious web content with my D90 i.e. videos, slideshows, etc. One problem though: security says no tripods or monopods get into the gated inauguration viewing areas, which pretty much rules out shooting video due to jello effect of going handheld...or does it? I plan to bring my 70-300mm zoom which does not have VR. So...I would appreciate any ideas on how to work around this issue!

You must become a robot, basically... at 300mm, with the addition of a 1.5 crop (Becomes a 400mm), you would have to be a yoga master to stand that still in the the blustery DC wind...
Just go out and grab a CCD camera with global shutter... aaaah, global blur.

I was watching DVX100 footage last night and it was so pleasing to see a zoomed in pan which didn't skew at all... it really was nice.

My advice,. just take a lot of nice stills, and then edit that together as a video with great sound bites, music, slow moves in, nice grading, etc...
Shooting d90 video you'll just kick yourself later 'cause it'll be so unusable.

or get a beanbag and rest it on somebodys shoulder.......remember the wider you shoot the less wobble you'll have.

You could try using a gorilla pod and resting it on your shoulder or chest by pressing it against yourself.

(edit: whatever technique you end up using, practice before you go of course.)

Great Ideas guys. I like almost all of them, many thanks:beer:.
One question: I want to shoot stills on highest resolution the D90 offers for maybe some gallery style prints later...but I'd like to streamline the rendering process when I edit them into video. I know I will be panning and zooming across the photos which could hang me up w/12mp stills. Do you know if there a way to down-res the photos before putting them in a timeline (I use Vegas Pro-8) that will allow you to do that?

i think you can do a batch process in photoshop...not sure exactly how. but i'd do it that way. then drag them into your editor.
