MQ vs PQ

What is the difference between the Professional grade and Master grade Panasonic tapes? Is the difference noticeable?

Re: MQ vs PQ

What I know: Digital is digital. Best analogy I heard is, imagine some files burned to a Maxell CDR, and a TDK CDR. The data on them will be the same, regardless of the disc brand. Where the difference may lie is in how the disc will hold up over time, durability, etc.

Same with DV tapes. As long as the player that is reading the tape can pickup the 1's and 0's, you will so no difference.

It is my understanding that the MQ's are slightly higher quality, so, fewer drop outs and stuff. Someone else should chime in now.

Re: MQ vs PQ

MQs are what Panasonic reccomends - they're the highest calibre between the MQs, PQs, and their regular tapes.

The main difference is that they use a dry lube, rather than wet.

Sony tapes use wet lube, I believe Maxells and such do as well - and it's my understanding that the regular Panasonic MiniDV tapes are wet lube.

If you use MQs, PQs, or Fujis, you'll be fine - they're all dry lube. While using dry is best - what's more important is to stick with one brand and keep it that way.
