MQ tapes replaced by SQ tapes?

Hey guys,

A long time ago I stocked up on AY DVM63MQ tapes. I'm about to run out and discovered my supplier no longer carries them. They carry the SQ version (AY DVM63SQ). It's indicated on their site the SW version replaced the MQ. Previous to the MQ I was using tapes (by Panasonic) that my DVX100a would tell me the heads were dirty. When I switched to the MQ I never had any problems.

In short, are the SQ tapes good, is there something better, or should I try to find a supplier for the MQ tapes?

Yep, the SQ are great. There in fact not only a replacement for the MQ, but also have the same specs as the AMQ do... The Pana representative for Germany (where I live) told me, that the AMQ and the SQ are exactely the same...the only difference is the price. The SQ only cost a third of the AMQ here in Germany...
I use the SQ since they came up (approx 100-130 tapes in each of my cams...) and I never had any drop out or any other problem...
Conclusion: the SQ's rock...

What is the difference between the ay dvm36MQ and the ay dvm36AMQ tapes? my supplier carries the AMQ tapes now, but not the MQ.

the MQ (Master Quality) tapes have been replaced by Panasonic by the AMQ (advanced Master Quality) tapes (which have a much higher price...). Some suppliers had both of them in stock for a short period of time, but as far as I know, the MQ are not produced anymore. The SQ were brought to the market as a step between the PQ's and the AMQ's..., but as I wrote above, the SQ's and the AMQ's seem to have (nearly) the same specs...So if you don't have to compare prices, the AMQ's are the best choice for you. If you are on a budget, you should go with the SQ's (instead of the PQ's), because they are quite as good as the AMQ, but at a price that is nearly as cheap as the PQ's ...
