MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

I've been shooting a behind the scenes documentary using the 100A on Panasonic MQ tapes--the dry tapes. Now I am beginning to edit (around 60 hours of footage). I have a JVC BR-DV3000 MiniDV deck which has been in use for 2-3 years in my studio. However, it has never had a MQ tape, only Sony, TDK and the occasional Maxell. So my question is: should I use the JVC deck for logging and capturing footage? Or should I use the Panasonic camera for logging and captuing? I am wondering if the dry tapes going into a deck that has been using wet tapes will defeat the purpose of using the dry tapes in the first place and introduce problems. Of course, using the deck is more convenient, as well as saving wear on the camera's tape heads.

Thanks to anyone's input.

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

You should use your JVC deck because as you said, capturing 60 hours of
footage will be hard on your DVX's heads.

TDK are very bad tapes... used them before when I wanted to pay as low as possible for them and they are problematic.

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

I would definitely clean ( or have it done ) the deck heads before or not reuse those tapes in the dvx after capturing.

On a similar subject, does anyone know if using DVCAM tapes on the DVX is a good choice? They are a bit more expensive than the MQ, but I can't get a hold of the MQ tapes in Mexico where I'm shooting a short. I appreciate your help.

If you can't get MQ tapes get FUJI tapes.

Thanks Pierre, I'm going to look for FUJI tapes down here. ;D

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

What about the AY-DVM63PQ tapes, does anyone recommend them?

Thanks in advance

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

ive heard pq tapes suck i would clean the heads on the deck and use only mq tapes and use the big 120 mq tapes myself.

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

PQ tapes don't suck. They are very good tape but for the difference of price, I would go with the MQ tapes since they are a little bit better.

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

I've never had problems with the PQ's. 4 bucks a tape compared to 7 bucks a tape. I guess it's depends on your budget.

Re: MQ tapes in camera or deck for edit

I haven't found neither the MQ nor the PQ tapes and I'm sweating my saturday shoot. My options are either consumer tapes from Panasonic (DVC 60) of from Fuji (DVC 60 which are dry lub) an other choice is a much better qualitytape from Sony, the PDVM 40N for DVCAM however I think sonys are wet lub. I just got the camera back from service and they cleaned the heads, so no wet nor dry tapes have gone through.
What do you guys (and girls) think of using the sony tapes fot this shoot while the MQ are on their way (3 to 4 weeks) and as soon as I have MQs clean the heads and never change again. Is than a good option or should I stick to dry lub consumer quality for this 4 day shoot only.

I realy appreciate any imput, thanks a lot.
