MQ tapes disconinued? what do we do now?

They both use the same dry format- should be no issues whatsoever. The AMQ's are just more resilient.
Where did u hear this?
The main difference of the tapes is that the tape emulsion is 4 times as dense within the MQ/AMQ as opposed to the PQ's

went to samys the other day and had to pay $90 for 10 tapes...

I guess i will be using my 50 ft firewire cable a lot more now.

So basically for the DVX we can only select through three diffrent models of tapes? Are there any others to look into getting, good thing I didn't just start recording with older used cheaper dv tapes lol.

you can use any tape with a dvx, the issue is that once you pick a 'type' (ie. dry lube or wet lube) of tape, you need to stick with it or you will gunk up your heads. I know a bunch of guys that only use sony stock in their DVXs and they have no issues at all.

on another note, and i think most people dont know this, not all sony stock uses the same lube, their HDV and digital master tapes use a dry lube, while all thier other tapes use a wet lube, so if you have a z1, make sure not to mix them up.

What are a decent brand of tapes to use and where can I purchase them? I was looking on Ebay and found some MQ's for like 4 bucks ea.

forgive this newbie. i searched and did not find the ideal forum so i picked this one. BUT,
i bought and used about an hour of Fuji film tape from walgreens before reading the warnings on this forum about tape. i bought some panasonic PQ's. SO, can anyone confirm if switching from Fuji tape to PQ's is safe without a pro cleaning? thank you so much for your help, i need to shoot in 2 days and am stressing over the answer!
