MQ tape switch from sony

i've been running sony tapes thru my dvx for the past yr - i would guess about 80+ have passed over those delicate heads. i'd like to switch to the MQs (just bought a bunch), and want to do it safely and effectively.

- is one head cleaning of the camera sufficient? how will i know if it's nice and clean (other than seeing if i get funky picture quality)?
- is there a manual way to clean the heads (not using the tape cleaner thingy, which i fear is too abrasive, and have been warned of such)? i've done the manual way w/ my pany dv deck before, as i am pretty ingrained in the post-production world and have the right chemicals.
- is it safe to be switching now (i haven't had a problem yet)?
- will my sony pd-150 make the switch as well? it's probably seen over 200+ sonys.
- any other concerns?

good times!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I cannot answer your questions but wouldn't do it based on your amount of use and lack of problems. I have heard (albeit, possibly nothing more than rumor), that tapes also create wear patterns on heads too. Switching can be problematic after a while in this regard too (not only the lub issue).

Worst case, I'd probably get a professional cleaning first....
