MPR and blue-ray

I am missing 1 thing in the new MBP namely the blue-ray writer. Probably it will take a half year before they will be implemented. So my question is if it is possible to connect an external blue-ray writer to the MBP and write eddited footage to disk???? What connection do I have to use on the MBP????

Try FastMac for BluRay drives for the Mac. Now they don't sell an external, but they do sell a tray-load one. There are generic enclosures (think like a hdd enclosure) for burner drives. You could put the Tray-load model into one of those and then connect to your MBP with Firewire or USB.

There is also MCE Technologies. They just ask whether you're going into a Mac Pro or a Power Mac, not tray vs slot. But there is a 1-800 number, so you can call them and then sort out which one you need (same deal again is you'll have to buy an enclosure yourself to put it into for the MBP).

cheers.

do you think that one of those will be incorporated in the next MBP, next version???? In other words should I wait with buying the MBP????

I would love to see the next 17" MBP's with BD's. That would be an incredible thing. An MBP with 4GB ram and BD and what an amazing portable solution you would have their. But trying to predict when Apple will release things is a sport only for the insane (or the sane that don't mind being wrong all the time). There are plenty of online sites that try and do just that and are not often correct (though I guess it depends on the specific rumour in question).

Really though I think it could be a while before you'll see a BD in a laptop. Usually they show up in the towers first before the thinner laptop versions show up. So it just kind of depends how long you're willing to wait. Maybe by fall the MacPro's will get some new models and come with a BD. Just my opinion, but I think realistically you won't see a MBP w/ a BD until next spring at earliest (next NAB or WWDC).

cheers.

I have seen a Sony notebook about 4 months ago which already had a BD so it is not out of the ordinary. Apple is just always about 4 months behind. So maybe you are right and in oct/nov./dec there will be a small update, maybe even the LED backlite on the 17" and finally Leopard if it will not be delayed again. Than indeed you will have the ultimate portable edditting solution.

Are you interested in the blu ray burner for data backups?

If so, an external should work with Toast 8.

However, no FCS2 blu ray authoring is available.
