Mpeg2 File Uploads

For those of you who have not uploaded your Mpeg2 files yet:

Larry has asked me to pass along the following info to you:

Hold off on uploading those until next week sometime. Larry will make an announcement about when and how to handle that.

The focus right now is getting all of the films spread across the 10 mirrors we have this go round (thanks to all of you 'users who are helping with bandwidth) and making sure everything is running smoothly.

So, hold off on your mpeg2 file uploads if you haven't yet uploaded them.

Thanks. Good luck to all of you. The viewing period is drawing near.

I'm going to temporarily stick this, as there have been several queries about it.

awesome, I thought we were too late in submitting an mpeg. so this is good news. Also, by tonight will we be able to view the films?

I sent mine but I haven't heard any word on whether or not what I sent will work. If there's a problem someone tell me and I'll fix it.

Good news ... I tried uploading my entire .zip file last night (after the H.264 upload yesterday morning), and it seemed to have an error of some sort. I'll just hang onto the file until we're notified next week to submit it.

With the two "Fest's" I have seen thus far ...
and the natural evolution and progression theories of the internet ...

I think a good way to handle these deadline Film Festival dealines would be to what the first post says, require to upload the smaller file by the deadline date.
Helping a friend upload the other night, I could only get the smaller H.264 file to upload.

- Entrants would be required to load up their (smaller) H.264 file on the required deadline date.

This would alleviate potential bandwidth problems on the uploading servers on that deadline date.
Like the above post,
- Delay the upload of the larger .mpeg 2 file to 1 week or later, with a disclosure that it must be the original file matching the H.264 entry.
This would once again,
alleviate potential bandwidth problems with the upload process, in theory because entrants would not be rushing to transfer all their files at the same time.

The on-line form is a great idea and require it for the H.264 upload so the naming function helps organize the uploaded data for dvxuser.com

For the larger .mpeg file, offer a FTP address, user name and password.
If security for FTP is factor, a user name and password can be created when a H.264 entry is actually submitted.
This will cut down of the admin duties.

Provide a thread, tutorial on how to transfer through FTP.

HTTP transfer of large files through various Web Browsers has been shaky at times as the internet has boomed.
100Mb+ files have been a challenge even with the HTTP "send file" services.
FTP clients are just what the acronym means "File Transfer Protocol" ...
Rock solid file transfer with FTP software containing error correction transfer process to aide in the delivery and send process.

With remaining "dial up" users left* the computer can be left on overnight while transferring FTP ...
and the software can be configured to start over the process if it does not complete the transfer,
unlike the HTTP Webpage transfer, that just crashes, and displays a Browser Error Message.

* If involved in video on any level, Broadband connection is recommended.

"Just food for thought and discussion"
Keep up the great work dvxuser.com and participants ...
I love watching the talent on these contests and enjoy the immense knowledge found in these forums.
