Hi I just wanted to ask a quick question. One of my friends started a project on a avid system but he couldnt continue on that pc so i said i could help him at home with my workstation (with MC 3.0 ) but i never moved a project from another system before. I used the consolidate tool to move the captured files to my external harddrive ( i dont need a project file because ill be cutting the footage from scratch) what i couldnt manage is to put the captured files from my external to my workstation. When i just try to import them the sound and video is seperated, isnt there any chance i can just import them as if i captured them on that pc with no trouble ? or let me put it this way, after i used consolidate and moved the files to my ext. what is the right way to move them to my pc. thx ....sorry for the long description :)

Just duplicate the media drives or use the same ones. Copy the entire project folder and bring all to your system. Put the project in the project folder and attached the media drive. Open project and start frm scratch as needed. Can't be any easier.

cheers, ill try that, i actually assumed it would be that way but i remember i had some trouble before when i tried to copy the entire project, but ill see what i can do :) thx again

The only issues that come up when copying projects is when using a CD or or optical media as the transfer format. When doing that, the files get locked and cannot be changed. Before opening in Media Composer, be sure to get info or properties and make it read/wrote and not read only. Not an issue when copying via thumb drives, etc.

I would also suggest that you trash the database files, which will automatically rebuild when you boot your Avid. If your friend had them on a drive called 'j' and you have them on a drive called 'm' avid might search for them. By trashing your DB File, it will find whats there, not what it thought was there.

Thx for your help but i didnt mention something and sorry for that :( i think i made a mistake before i asked the forum. I only used the consolidate tool to just transfer the captured media to my external disk. I dont have access to the system that the files were captured so that means I wont be able to copy the project and user folders of the project. If there is no chance to do it with just the transfered media files on my external harddrive I'll have to somehow go and get the project folders. Thats why I asked first hand if it was possible to just do it from the consolidated media files on my external disk ( when i use consolidate tool i cant import the files on my external drive to my new project, that was my problem)
