TEST IMAGE:

IT works.......WooHoo. The above image is an example of what a PL Mount should be like. The RED section is where the locator pin is on the actual MOVIETUBE.

BIG THANKS to Mr Brody for showing me the light.

Thaanks KHmuse. I shall print off a copy today and shoot it.

Well after todays tests, here are my conclusions based on not having a correctly mounted lens (see pictures posted earlier):

Definite 2 full stops of light loss.

Closing down past T4.0 on the film lens and grain starts to get very noticeable, as well as a very noticeable Hot Spot.

I've found the best combination for shooting on the configuration I was using was to keep the Film Lens wide open (T2.2) and the Camcorder Iris set at F4.8. If your still over exposed at that setting you'll have to start using ND's.

I found, out of focus highlights take on an unusual look, If the image is static it almost looks like having a dirty lens in the background. I've shot some footage (fairly un-inspiring stuff) the problem is the uncompressed file is 1.6Gb so I can't host this size of file. Any Suggestions?

Up-load files up to 50Mb. Compress about 6 seconds or so to get the best rez out of the 50M. No need for more. They'll provide the link, once the clip is up. As for full rez, frames from the footage will suffice (imo)

Boy that thing looks uncomfortable to shoot with.
I'm not sure I could get used to shooting with my cam at a 45 degree angle....then again other people seem to have gotten used to shooting with an upside down image, so who am I to say?

The thing that bothers me with all of these adapters is the iris limitation due to grain.

If in fact the best configuration is to keep the film lens wide open at all times (as you suggested) then we're basically trading one limitation for another. Now, instead of having deep depth of field at all times we will have shallow depth of field at all times. Granted, some might agree that it's a better look, but it's still a limitation.

I don't think I'll be sold on these adapters until I can use the full range of stops on a lens without any visible grain.

I think if you were to use standard Prime lenses then I think it would be very comfortable. Working with the camera at such an angle is a bit strange at first but I got used to it very quickly indeed. It actually helps because it exposes the left hand side of the camcorder (on a tripod) more, so you can see all your control switches better.

As for the Variable Primes well they're big chunks of glass and somewhat fatiguing and very uncomfortable to shoot with hand held.

At nearly $9000 (US) for the Movietube I'd spend the money on a second hand film camera package, to be quite honest.

Did I ever mentioned upside down camera? (as opposed to "flip it in post"?). Weird looking animal, but the image is clean.

Luis, on this page:

you will see the same image shot at 2.8 as well as 22 both GG motion and static.
I have a clip closing down the SLR aperture between 2.8 to 22, while I left the camcorder on auto exposure to compensate the variation in the amount of light reaching the CCD. The image maintains the characteristics of film (DOF subject to aperture) while the grain is not seen due to motion of the screen.
This is a 2.8/200 mm lens @2.8:

and this one (same lens and all) @22:

I am not in any way trying to “convince you to buy into it”. But just so you know it is possible! The above pictures were posted on my site on Feb 03/2005.

Glad you like it, VERY glad you found out IT IS POSSIBLE. I wish you were closer to test it first hand.
Another short show will shoot in a week time. I'll be there FT make sure I can use some footage to demo it. A contraption like this without "old school working habits" is worthless.
That "priceless" DOF needs rehearsals, marks and a coordinate effort to get the shot "in the can". Gun and run is fun too especially when the first and best one had and has shot was video, but not the best way to get a good image. Pretty much like using canons to kill mosquitoes (not worth it) Oh, well... internet stories....

Is it a MAC thing or is there some other worldly deed I have to do, like gracing the palms of all the moderators with some hard cash?

..

..is the cash thing something youd like to do, ...cause its getting closed to Christmas and my daughters would like 3 ponys instead of 2 this year.
thanks for sharing on the movie tube.

No one likes a smartass Neil.

So let's see. $9000.00 for the Movietube and nearly $4000.00 for the DVX100 (Rounding up).

$13,000 ? That's nearly halfway to the SDX900; I'd rather keep saving my bones. I love what some of these 35 units do but when they cost more than the camera it's not worth it. It should be in an accesory range to the camera NOT the price of 2 cameras. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Yeah right....maybe if by "my daughters" you mean You, and by "3 ponys" you mean an HVX200.
