Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011)

Or, in no particular order:

2011 Drive - not for any of the reasons others mention but because it was pleasantly less than what it has been build it up to be. Hype aside it's just a little film that is what it is, nothing groundbreaking but with a different vibe.

2011 Red Dog - I expected to hate this film and tried to but actually really enjoyed it. It isn't doing anything new, basically pushing the same buttons as the other few Australian 'blockbusters' (Aussie humour, moviefied) but it does it better than any of them and against my will I ended up enjoying this. I was even somewhat moved at points.

2011 Our Idiot Brother - Not 100% sure if I liked this or not but it is one really funny premise which then morphs into something other than an endlessly repeating single gag. I suspect it is a chick flick that gives us a pot smoking loser instead of cleavage to persuade the boyfriends to allow themselves to be dragged along.

2011 The Beaver - The first two acts are great. Really great. The third act brings this film back to paint by numbers hollywood drivel.

2011 Win Win - Not a movie I expected to like but it sucked me in completely. I need to see more Paul Giamatti because he just getting better and better. A drama which neither tries to be too edgy nor devolves into soppiness. Worth the price of entry.

2011 Attack the Block - a fantastic sleeper. Really enjoyed this, best alien comedy in ages.

2011 Apollo 18 - until the aliens show up...

2011 Septien - Can't say it's good or bad, but interesting even if it tries too hard to be allegorical. Some very good bits, some contrived bits. Perhaps worth a rental to make up your own mind. It's a very short feature.

2011 The Guard - Might just be my top pick for 2011. Brendan Gleeson is brilliant and well supported in this unassuming little irish film. Not a frame wasted, fantastic performances, great script. Be sure to watch this one.

2011 The Skin I Live In - Antonio Banderas in a very strange and unexpected film. Great twists that get better even if you know them or on the second time you watch it. A scifi without the trappings. A film that plays on moral tension, implications rather than threat of violence keep this one chugging along.

2011 - Paul was fun, the ending a little weak but with an excellent cameo. But then Simon Pegg's films tend to focus more on a mildly crazy journey than a big ending. Excellent supporting cast, Wiig steals the show. Pokes a little fun at America on the way but does it with love.

2011 - I haven't seen Tree of Life but I believe people when they say it's good. Source Code is on my list to see.

2012 - Haven't really seen any movies this year other than the obvious ones (and being in Australia 2011 is our 2012), none of which offered more than some promise for their inevitable sequels. I enjoyed John Carter but it might not work so well on the small screen, Prometheus was...okay. I missed Margin Call but I hold some hope that it will be good when I get around to it. I'm looking forward to Looper if I haven't missed it.

Another vote for Drive. That was a solid 5/5 movie for me. Best I've seen in a long, long while.

@ Egg - Red Dog was terrible! lol each to their own.

I expected to hate it. But then again I watched it with my sister's kids, maybe that made a difference. Plus it was filmed in my backyard, maybe I'm more parochial than I thought.

Anyone who can use the word "parochial" in a sentence is someone that I will give the benefit of the doubt to.

Egg Born Son +1.

Haha, tmnt could be right though. If you want to watch it could be worth grabbing some kids to watch it with to lower your cynicism threshold! The movie is 40% dog, 40% landscape, and 20% wacky characters.

It's all good. I was just looking for something interesting to watch from the past year and couldn't come up with anything! Frustrating.
Thank god for you guys. Now I have more than enough to catch up on. -Cheers.

//edit: Oh btw, I started a new "Word of the Day" on my facebook page and am asking my friends to use the word of the day in a sentence. If they dont comply, they get a zero.

The word today, my first day starting this, was..."parochial"

One taker so far. Get's a gold star. (Or in this case, 3 happy faces.)

:) :) :)
