movies on a card?

Hey guys. I just picked up a new Blu-Ray player and it has the capability to play SDHC cards, actually I was able to view my GH1 footage. Awesome! My question is, and this would be great if I can do this, can I shoot a film, edit etc...and output to a card and show the film off of that card?

ive tried a similar thing with jpeg stills i took, i wanted to get them printed in one of those do it yourself photo print machines, qwick nip into photoshop, little edit and then saved them straight back onto the card with the same file name and such.

didnt work tho :(

ps: i really love the thinking man pose on your website

Just speculating here because I can't test it out for lack of a BR player, but if you have Toast 10, maybe you can export a Bluray disk image of your movie then copy the unmounted disk image (using Copy > Image File in Toast, don't think drag n drop will cut it) onto a big enough SDHC card.

If you get a chance to try this out, let us know the results. If this works, I might want to archive movies in this way.

UPDATE: Actually, just export directly to an SDHC card, one less step.

Okay, I tried this to see if it would play back in my camcorder (I figure your BluRay player is like a camcorder minus the camera part), but no dice. I suppose AVCHD files play on BluRay players but BR files don't play on AVCHD players. Or maybe I'm just not doing something right. Anyhow...

I think you can export actual AVCHD with certain NLE's like Premiere Pro, so they should be playable on your card. Maybe.

I'm sure one the many resourceful users on this site will or have already figured this out...please share if you did.

Yes you can, at least with an SDXC card slot, which my TV has. I have a 64 GB SDXC card, which holds the same amount of info as a BD. I use Premiere Pro CS5 for output, you can use AVS Video converter but the quality is degraded.

This leads to the big question of whether Blu-ray will last the distance...SDXC cards are new and rare, and only avaialble in 64 GB here is Australia, but they'll soon be released in over 1TB size! I think 1.5 or 2TB will be the max - more than most computer hard drives!
