"Waiting for Guffman" - you'll either love it, or you'll hate it.  It was created by Christopher Guest (co-conspirator of "Best In Show" and "A Mighty Wind"), so it is done in a documentary style.[/quote]

What? Best In Show and A Mighty Wind and not even a mention of This Is Spinal Tap?

Re: Movies every film maker should see

Yes, Spinal Tap and the Evil Dead series... good one's. How about Scarface? It seems to be making a comeback with the kids and gangsta's, but it's an awesome f-ing movie.

Re: Movies every film maker should see

For me,

Die Hard (the first, the only one) must be on the list.

It's the best action film I've never seen.
Everything is perfect : screenplay, acting, shooting. A milestone.

Most of the Eastwood's films ; especially Honkytonk Man

Some others title :
my own private idaho.
breaking the waves
12 monkeys
Festen

from french :
claude sautet : Vincent, François, Paul and the Others
most of patrice leconte's film ; especially :
the Hairdresser's Husband
Yvonne's Perfume

Re: Movies every film maker should see

Re: Movies every film maker should see

Except for the part where Craig and Deborah do the spinning around kissy face thing at the tunnel's entrance. Annoying as all getout...even the music.

Re: Movies every film maker should see

I thought I was the only person who liked Body Double. I still want to live in that house to this day (even if it doesnt have the same "view").

You're right David! Rushmore was a BRILLIANT flick! I can't wait for their next one, The Life Aquatic!

Re: Movies every film maker should see

BODY DOUBLE was great. Pleasure Dome music, filming a porn, vampire opening, drills through the cieling. Awesome.

Any film even peripherally about the biz automatically gets my attention. :)

Oh, okay. I want to be Brian De Palma when I grow up. (I said Brian, not Louie!)

Never much wanted to be Francis, or Martin, or George, or Steven, or Adrian, or Ridley, or or or... Always Brian. Maybe it's a New Jersey thing.

But first I have to find my own Nancy Allen and convince Dennis Franz to be in the films...

Re: Movies every film maker should see

Nancy Allen was kind of hot in Carrie wasnt she? Not bad in Blow Out either.

Re: Movies every film maker should see

De palma goes from greatness to awfulness, a strange career that man has had.

Re: Movies every film maker should see

So true so true. And yes, David. In 1941 I wished I was Tim Matheson.
