Movies every film maker should see

With a script by Terrence Mallick. Che will be a dream. Amazing though when you think about it, hollywood is making many 'leftie'movies, like the new world, good night and good luck, syriana etc I mean i'm surprised the neo-cons haven;t thrown a wobbly. Oh well, i'm sure Bush and his cronies will force disney and other studios to make a movie about naughty iranians and their WMDs.

"Give us the WMDs or we bomb you."
But we don't have any WMDs.
"That's it they are not complying bomb them. whups there were no WMDs".

Rashomon(Akira Kurosawa)

Cure (Kiyoshi Kurosawa film)

Bright future (Kiyoshi Kurosawa film, great acting, loved Asano tadanobu in this film )

The Twilight Samurai (a Yoji Yamada film, academy award nominee , winner of 12 Japanese academy awards!!! )

9 songs after all it was filmed on a dvx, and this a dvx forum. But i did hate it. But it's something every film maker should see to spark off arguments.

films i would recommend to any discerning, perceptive filmmaker, in alphabetical order...
  • Breaking the Waves
    The Dekalog
    The Double Life of Véronique
    The Dreamlife of Angels
    L'enfant
****ing Åmål (AKA Show Me Love)
    George Washington
    Lilja 4-ever
    The Mirror
    Ratcatcher
    Rosetta
    The Sacrifice
    Satantango
    Scenes from a Marriage
    The Son
    Three Colors: Blue
    Three Colors: Red
    Uzak (AKA Distant)
    Werckmeister Harmonies
    Wings of Desire

A lot of good films on the list. I wouldn't blindly recommend Tarrantino (or any other director for that matter). One man's tea is another man's poison.

how bout The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course?

I wanted to be eaten by one after seeing it. It's got to be worse movie ever made.

No, that honor goes to the remake of the Fog.
At least in Collision Course you could chuckle at what an idiot he is.

I KNOW I am probably in the minority, but man HATED Lost in Translation. Some great bits by Bill Murray, but man most of them were probably improved. In the end I thought it was a long travel dvd for Japan. I liked Virgin Suicides better. I still just don't get all the hype about Translation. Slow. Uninteresting characters. Nice camera work, but I was bored.

And who recommended "Man With A Movie Camera"? Oh my. Nice piece of history but it didn't change how I look at movies. Its really just...well....a guy with a movie camera. LOL. Definitely amazing for its time, but its not 1929 anymore.

Some nice Russian boobies, though.

Really this movie was all about editing.
