Ok, this issue was probably posted many times, but transfering methods and hardware have been improved since they were posted, so the question is : how good it will look when transfering from my mini-dv movie shot with my dvx100a cam ? Where is the best place and the best method to do it? Have anyone seen a dvx100 film showing on the big screen ? I really need this answers in order to give this expensive next step.

Yes, I saw November on the big screen, and it looked pretty darn acceptable. There were only a couple of times when it looked a little fishy; the darkroom scene was one, and there were some blown-out highlights in a hallway. Other than that it looked totally fine, and very much like a 16mm print blown up.

I've also seen my own footage blown up to 35mm, and from the front of the theater it looked acceptable; from the back of the theater it looked abso-frickin-lutely fantastic.

I always give a strong recommendation to Marcus van Bavel at dvfilm.com, those guys really know DV to film.

Thanks Barry Green! Just one question, did you color correct your movie before transferring to 35mm ? Is it possible ? I like to use magic bullet to make it more film-like but I am not sure if it will transfer well.

Oh, I would certainly not expect magic bullet footage to transfer well, most magic bullet presets introduce significant diffusion. Consult with your proposed film transfer house to see what they recommend.
