Movie Trailer

Some really good shots there. particularly the ones in the day. Very nice look. The night shots seemed like something was off. The color did not add to the atmosphere of fear that I think you are trying to create.

Also, at points the acting looked a bit labored (when the guy is on the floor telling them to run and when they are in the house)

I would also suggest re-editing the trailer. It looks like you give away much of the movie (I mean in terms of what happens to the people). The girls body is floating so I assume she dies and the guy is walking alone in the town which looks like that's the end of the film. So I would assume he is the only one that lives. That may not be what happens but most people like to go into a movie fresh without any preconceived notions of what may happen and that trailer gives then some possible glimpses into critical parts of the movie.

Overall, looks pretty good.

Thanks for the comments. You're right about not giving away too much. there is a fine line there that people go back on forth on. My goal of the trailer is to court distribution and not general audience so I may need to show more. And I actually give away exactly what I want to give away to make people think they know what the film is about and where it's headed if you know what I mean. thanks!

I liked it a lot. Has a bit of a "Deliverance" feel. I assume you will be adding more sound to the film, as the ambience of the vocals doesn't always fit with the image. Like in the early shot outside with the wind blowing the girls hair, but the voice sounds like it's in a smallish room. Im sure this is just your' distribution trailer, which I think looks really, really promising.

The trailer looks quite nice. good job. I don't know if I would recut or not. I know from experience that not all shots are what they seem. But if you feel that you did give it away, by all means re cut. The only cut that I really didn't like and diid give it away was the one where the guy said that somebody else took his girl. Too trite, too much information. It gives away part of the plot line.

Hmmm

Hmmm

So why is Vincent Chase going around killing people?

Actually, the trailer seems pretty interesting, I guess you gave away as much as you did because of who the trailer is targeted to. Do these type of trailers typically give away that much info though?

HA HA! Because he's pissed he lost his agent so he wanted to come work for a no budget indie out in the pacific northwest and get away from the "LA scene" for a bit. Clear his head you know? He was cool but turtle was a ***** it to keep happy:smile:

About giving away too much, I actually feel like I'm not, that there's whole sections I haven't even eluded to and the ending is far from being given away.

Thanks for the comments!

Bluegrey, congrats on the movie trailer...
I liked:
You have some really cool shots in there, including some nice sounding audio...

What needs to be improved (IN MY OPINION):
--PLEASE change the font and the way the animations go in (ESPECIALLY the ending name of the movie animation)... in my eyes, it looks kind of amateurish...
--Your foley sounds fake, I would improve, the bullet sound and the punching sounds, HOWEVER the dialogue DOES sound crisp and VERY professional...
--Is your image color corrected?
I would drop the blacks a lot more, and maybe increase the gain... just to give it a more edgy look...
I would also hide Vincent Chase, a little more, keep him a bit more of a mystery... I would include the scene where the dead girl is floating in the lake, just like it is, BUT the one before that, where she's drowning her, I add some cool sound effects, and just show some frames of him drowning the chick... some quick flashes of the act... would suffice to excite my curiosity...

OVERALL, the concept is REALLY cool, BUT somehow it doesn't arouse my curiosity... maybe it's just me... It's like you have something really cool, but it just needs more sculpting and perfecting...

That's my 2 cents, I wish you the best of luck at the festivals!

Looked great dude.. Some really nice stuff in there! The night stuff looked good to me.. Hard to do night stuff w/o a 50' condor in the air provind moonlight.. but good none the less!

Thanks again for the comments. dwstudio - thanks for taking the time to give so much specific feedback. It's much appreciated.

hey Bluegrey what are you doing as far as the rights to the soundtrack music goes? does it not matter as long as you're not selling the movie or making any money from it? jus curious of the legal side to how that would work. i'm only asking because i was actually going to use that same song, lol. i got a ton of songs on my ipod from several movies...i picked up on that one in the first 3 seconds.

the trailer looked good and i didnt think u gave too much away because i have no idea what its about. only a general idea. did u write and direct this?

My favorite part of the trailer is the last 20 seconds. Everything starts looking a lot more film-like (the first half of the trailer looks a tad videoish). And just the feel of the trailer takes on a cool tone too. "We just need to get out of here" cut to those shots was a really cool choice. If you can make the rest of the trailer like that last 20 seconds, I think you'll really have something.

Drop the "Dark Horizons" titling in the end. It looks cheesy. And drop the still image cuts in the middle. They don't work either.

The stuff on the waterfall looks really cool and gives it a big-budget feel. It looks like you guys really did the jumping. Color me impressed.

Best of luck,
C.G.

Yeah that music is just temp. We have an original soundtrack for the film but it's not completed yet.

I did write and direct it. Thanks for the feedback!

Looks like 35mm adapter footy....Am I correct? Which model? The footage looks good, except I would suggest darkening the night footage, and bring the blue levels down a bit...Moonlight isn't actually THAT colorful ;)

No adapter, just the stock lens.
