movie trailer

Loved the look and feel of your rough cut. Was that shot with the dvx100 or 100a.
Keep up the good work. Looks interesting.

it's filmed with both the DVX100 and the DVX100A, over a period of two years ... the video was shot at 24p Advanced, letterboxed, and then blown up to HD for color correction and transfer to 35mm. There's an article about the process here.

Hi, jlongley, looks absolutely mind-blowing. Great use of music, what is it? As this is a subject very very close to my heart I won't mention anything political, all I will say is that I hope you've been true to your heart and the people when filming this.

great promo..
...question..where u get that "green-approved for all audiences" screen?
I'm looking for one also, thanks.

thanks all --

Yas -- the film has a lot of politics in it, reflective of the politics on the ground in Iraq -- I definitely tried to stay true to the subject.

Saturnin -- I forget where I got the "Following PREVIEW has been approved..." image -- but you can have it here:

of course, it hasn't yet been approved by the ratings board -- the screen is just there for timing purposes right now.

the movie looks amazing; i'm definitely going to see it. when will it be released on dvd?

beautiful. the tone of it was great. and i don't mean the shots, which were great, but i mean the vibe. it seemed to convey something about Iraq i've never seen from typical news media or even hollywood movies. great editing too.

I think this trailer shows off the capability of the DVX to shoot "epic" scenes. My only complaint, if you will, about the trailer was the quick cutting. I'm old-fashioned and like to see longer shots that draw you in and set up emotional involvement. Other than that I was pleased to view.

agnus61 -- you're probably right: it could use a bit more character/story development to pull in the viewer ... maybe pretty pictures aren't enough? Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

this looks amazing. I look forward to watching it.

how big was your crew, how long were you there, and how many hours of footage did you have in the end? I have many more questions, but i'll leave it at that for now.

wow. I wanted to the movie to keep playing. I really want to know what is going on over there. The footage you have is amazing. wow. please provide info on how to get the movie. on a dvd-r maybe. I really want to see this movie. People need the truth about what is happening, not the CNN version..

Rasquachemedia -- I wound up with about 300 hours of material after filming for two years in Iraq. The finished film is 94 minutes, so I cut out a lot.

CarloLed -- the color grading was done in HD at Modern Digital in Seattle. There is a full article describing the post process here.

operation_nola -- the film will premiere at Film Forum in New York City in November, then it will play in different cities around the US and wind up on DVD some time in spring. It will also show on TV in spring 2007.
