Just remember that the t2i/t3i has a crop ratio of 1.6. So that 50mm will become an 80mm. The Canon 50mm F1.4 is a nice lens, but you'll find it's not as universal as you'd like to think. You'd want to go for something a bit wider also. I use my 28mm more than I use my 50mm. A follow focus system is incredibly important to achieve accurate focus, so don't skimp on that.
Talked to my DP last night and he has a 50mm prime already, so we're likely going with that. He also suggested a 28mm like you did, but it runs $400-$500 and we only have about $1,000 left to spend on equipment. I also have a credit card limit increase coming before we start filming, which is perfect timing, but I'm holding that in reserve for unexpected expenses.
I could disagree, Juicedlink + Magic Lantern can actually give pretty good results. The only real disadvantage is it holding back your camera with cords.
I've decided to buy the Tascam DR-40 or DR-100 or just go with my Tascam FW1082. Does anyone know if the DR-40 accepts XLR input? The plugin on the device looks strange, but it also looks like it might. If someone has one or knows about it, please let me know.
I think I'd much rather not send the audio through the camera even though we wouldn't have to sync it later.
My DP gave me a list of stuff I overlooked, but have here at the house such as clamps, black cloth, gaffers tape, crates, clamps, extension cords, etc. I also have another question about a fogger vs ground foggger vs hazer. Which one is better? We won't low lying fog in the house and the ground fogger looks like it might be what we need. I've never used a hazer before. If someone has a technique of getting a natural low lying fog look I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks to all those people that have contributed so far.
