Hey guys just posting a clip of what i shot on thursday with the new CF3L diffuser from cinevate, the latest diffuser i assume..

CF3L being no vignetting while using zoom and more shallow DOF.

shot with 3 lenses..

sigma af 24mm 2.8
nikkor ai'd 50mm 1.4
nikon af 85mm 1.8

yes there is more shallow DOF.. use more light and this is what you got.. what you guys think?

The image is great. Ligthing is a little spotty, particularly the guns pointing at the futon. It looks like one overhead light pointing directly down.

looks great

Is the CF3L diffuser now being included in the HD bundle instead of the CF1L? Or do you need to purchase it separately from the bundle?

Majormorgan:

i used arri fresnel lights for the lighting, clamped to ceiling, hard spotted on areas and used a 1K w diffuser for fill the whole room. the room itself is very very lit, but since its the cf3 diffuser, I needed more light. for the night

There is some weird motion artifacting and a couple of the grabs looked interlace. There is a little too much light on the indoor stuff for me but in general it looks good.

i lit the scenes brighter purposely so then I can always darken in post if needed. HVX200 cameras seem to have a noise problem, so Im trying to avoid that.. by lighting more, and darkening later.. besides, i want to see the shallow DOF by using backlight, fill, etc etc..

deedive, the music im using is not the music u hear there.. that's just something just thrown in.. with that clip im not using music really.. the scene there is just a robbery scene.. and both the guy and the girl gets killed, and then you hear the baby at the end crying.. and you see that guy walk over to where the baby is.. bla bla..

After looking again, I think the issue inside is just too many white reflective surfaces. Set your gamma to cinelike V and turn down the master pedestal to help avoid noise.

Hi CLD. I can't wait to get that diffuser too. The shots from the other night were looking good also with it. The grabs are not half as sharp as the movie clip.
Throw up some new grabs!!! ;)

I hadn't checked the clip out until just now. Aram's right...that footage looks really good. It has the "pop" factor that sharp but shallow DOF shooting seems to impart to footage.

I just jumped on this feature as the new lighting designer halfway through. I really love the look of the new GG and I'm going to order one. He hasn't posted any of the new stuff since I got on yet but in the monitor it looks incredible. Even with the wider lenses you get some DOF happening.
On another note of changing the GG, I opened mine unit and got some hair and dust in there and tried cleaning with a brush and air but it stuck to the grounded side like white on rice. What I did to clean it completely was to run it under the faucet and let the water pressure get everything off and then dry it with the air. This got it spotless. You just have to make sure to hold it by the sides tightly and never touch the image surfaces.

Here are some BTS from the last few days. Having a great time on set with these guys and last night was hilarious. We had a scene where this famous porn star, Jaime Gillis (also in real life) comes to the bar and a guy is such a fan of his, he wants to touch the manhood that did Traci Lordz. I think that shot took 2 hours to get because of the laughing. The scene was scripted but they let them run with it and OMG, I was crying laughing. It took so long they decided to scrap the scene where the same guy is drunk dancing naked on the bar because nothing would get shot from the laughing.

Enjoy.
